ROLL CALL: Chung, George, Carrillo, Ferone -Absent, Miringoff, Nassiri, Breyer
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Chung led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the Regular Meeting held Aug. 1, 2024
Motion by Commissioner Breyer, seconded by Commissioner Miringoff, to approve the minutes
as presented. Motion carried, 5/0/1/1, (Nassiri -Abstain, Ferone -Absent}.
PRESENTATIONS: None.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
1. FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 WORK PLAN -Discuss and review the Arts Commission work plan for
fiscal year 2024-25. (Staff contact: Craddock Stropes, Library & Cultural Arts Department}
Recommended Action: Discuss and review the work plan for fiscal year 2024-25.
The commission discussed and reviewed the Arts Commission work plan fiscal year 2024-25.
The suggested edits will be included in the work plan and brought back to the Dec. 5, Arts
Commission regular meeting for approval.
Motion by Commissioner Nassiri, seconded by Commissioner George to form a new
subcommittee of Arts Commissioners to review the Arts and Culture Master Plan with staff.
Motion carried, 6/0/1 (Ferone -Absent}.
2. TGIF CONCERTS IN THE PARKS 2024 SEASON: Receive a report on the TGIF Concerts in the
Parks 2024 season. (Staff contact: Tom Johnston, Library & Cultural Arts Department}
Recommendation Action: Receive the report.
Commissioners received the report and reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the
Office of the City Clerk}.

3. UPDATE ON ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS: Receive a report on Arts Education programming
for Fall 2024. (Staff contact: Wendy Sabin-Lasker, Library & Cultural Arts Department)
Recommendation: Receive the report.
Commissioners received the report and reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the
Office of the City Clerk).
COMMISSIONER COMMENTARY AND REQUESTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF MATTERS: This
portion of the agenda is for the Arts Commissioners to make brief announcements, brief reports
of their activities and requests for future agenda item
The Arts Commissioners reported on activities and events they attended.
STAFF LIAISON COMMENTS: Cultural Arts Manager Stropes commented on the following:
• Schulman Auditorium
• Flamenco dance performance on Oct. 12
• Open Studios events
• Radio Latin Sur performance on Oct. 19
• Cannon Art Gallery exhibit running through Nov. 30
• A sign will be placed at the sculpture garden stating that the current exhibit has been
decommissioned
• Commissioner George will be accepting a proclamation for National Arts & Humanities
Month at the Oct. 8, City Council meeting
• Citizens Academy on Oct. 10
• Cinema Fridays at 4 p.m. in the Gowland Meeting Room at the Dove Library
• Chestnut Underpass Public Art Project
• Veterans Memorial Park Public Art Project
• Barrio Traffic Circle Public Art Advisory Subcommittee meeting has been scheduled for
Nov. 13
• Required workplace harassment prevention training
ANOUNCEMENTS: This section of the Agenda is designated for announcements to advise the
community regarding events that Members of the Arts Commission have been invited to, and
may participate in.
Carlsbad City Council 2024 Boards and Commissions Appreciation event.
