The demand for the hydraulic design sign for the retail area was redlined to reflect the revised calculations. It reflects a flow of 507.8 gpm and a pressure of 68.5 psi at the base of the riser. Rated separation notes between floors were redlined on the section view. The check valve and the control valve on the riser were omitted, and this has been redlined. These functions are performed by the backflow prevention assembly and the attached OS&Y valves on either side of that device, per NFPA-13. Page 2 Review Comments MVII Lincoln & Oak Mixed Use Building, 3112 Lincoln Street, Carlsbad, California I. A 4" riser would require a 2" main drain, per Table 8.16.2.4.2. This can be redlined on the plans. C-, The calculations for the retail space -based on the reference numbers of the flowing sprinklers - are mislabeled as being for the "Garage" area, and indicate a density of 0.15 gpm/ft2. The delivered density is 0.20, however the label is incorrect, and should be revised. Retail area pipes ii, 13, 18 and 19 should include the equivalent for a branch tee in the segment. The calculations for the retail space show a demand which exceeds 90% of the available supply which is not allowed. The following comment is for information purposes only, and had no bearing on the recommendation. The system riser shows a control valve, and a check valve. In reviewing sections 8.16.1.1.3.2, and 8.16.1.1.4.3 would suggest that neither is required, as the backfiow valve is deemed to function as the system check valve, and the downstream OS&Y valve on the backflow is deemed to function as the system control valve. In order to minimize opportunity for the system to be taken out of service it might be best to eliminate the third control valve mounted on the riser, and in order to minimize the potential for maintenance work the riser mounted check valve as well.
