Dyna-Thread sprinkler pipe represents an engineering advancement for the sprinkler pipe industry. It combines the safety and longevity of traditional Sch-40 pipe with quality and superior hydraulic advantages. Comparison to Schedule F[i Dyna-Thread's inside diameter is UP • With its increased strength and lighter to 3.6% larger than Sch40 giving it weight, Dyna-Thread reduces superior hydraulics. And, when used installation fatigue and is ideal for in combination with Dyna-Flow pipe, retro-fit applications. down sizing often occurs. More wall thickness at the thread (CRR= 1.00) gives Dyna-Thread better life expectancy than lightwall threadable pipe joints. Dyna-Thread is fully listed and approved by UL, ULC, and FM for fire sprinkler applications. The life expectancy of Dyna-Thread and Sch40 are equal based on the calculated wall thicknesses per UL. The consistent quality of steel used to make Dyna-Thread facilitates smooth threading and lower maintenance costs. The exterior of Dyna-Thread is protected by a clean, durable mill coating for extended shelf life and easy paint application. @ <~> 9 Listed Approved Listed Corrosion Resistance Ratio (CRR) is a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) term for the estimated life expectancy of a pipe joint. This is based on the calculated wall thickness at the base of the first exposed thread, assumed to be the weakest point of the pipe length. Dyna- Thread and Sch40 have the same calculated wall thicknesses at this point and are both assigned the same CR.R of 1.00. The internal surface of all black Allied Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe products up to 4.5000" in diameter is coated with our new Antibacterial Formula, 'ABF". In scientific laboratory test, ABS proved to have superior resistance to microbial colonization of pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly preventing the onset of Microbiologically Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the First Sprinkler System is first installed. Unlike lightwall threadable pipe, Dyna-Thread has no thread gauge warning. Dyna-thread is approved for standard hanger spacing (15 ft. O.C.), can be used as earthquake sway bracing, and is safe to use as drops. Dyna-Thread is safer to weld on. Dyna-Thread is more widely accepted than lightwall threadable where Sch-40 is specified. Super 40/Dyna-Thread pipe is manufactured to meet: ASTM A- 135, Grade A and is in compliance with NFPA- 13. All sizes of Super 40/Dyna- Thread are rated at 300 psi working pressure. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is UL and ULC Listed for wet, dry deluge and pre-action sprinkler systems and FM Approved for use in wet systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread can be "hot-dip" galvanized to meet FM requirement for dry systems. They are stronger and more corrosion resistant than cast iron fittings. The additional strength is provided by the ductile properties and by adding mag- nesium while the iron is being poured into the final cast shape. Although lighter than standard cast iron, the fit- tings have an added advantage of be- ing less susceptible to cracking due to their added strength. The Series 800, California, and Figure 719 Threaded Pipe Fittings are a re- designation for the Central Series 800, California, and Figure 719 Threaded Pipe Fittings. WARNINGS The Threaded Pipe Fittings described herein must be installed and main- tained in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities hav- ing jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler manufacturer should be contacted with any questions. Figure 1) are automatic sprinklers of the frangible bulb type. They are "quick response - spray sprinklers" that produce a hemispheri- cal water distribution pattern below the deflector. The 11.2 K-factor, ELO-231FRB Up- right and Pendent Sprinklers were subjected to full scale, high-piled stor- age, fire tests to qualify their use in lieu of 5.6 or 8.0 K-factor standard spray sprinklers for the protection of high- piled storage. Higher flow rates can be achieved at much lower pressures with the 11.2 K-factor, ELO-231FRB Sprinklers - making their use highly advantageous in high density applications, such as the protection of high-piled storage. For in-rack applications an upright in- termediate level version of the Series ELO-231FRB Sprinklers can be ob- tained by utilizing the Series ELO- 231FRB Upright Sprinkler with the WSG-2 Guard & Shield, and a pendent intermediate level version of the Se- ries ELO-231FRB Sprinklers can be obtained by utilizing the Series ELO-231FRB Pendent Sprinkler with the WS-2 Shield. If there is a possibility of the pendent intermediate level ver- sion being exposed to mechanical damage, a G-2 Guard can be added. WARNINGS The 11.2 K-factor, Series ELO- 231FRB Upright and Pendent Sprin- klers described herein must be in- stalled and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authori- ties having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or manufac- turer should be contacted with any questions. Installation of Series ELO-231FRB Pendent Sprinklers in recessed es- cutcheons will void all sprinkler war- ranties, as well as possibly void the sprinkler's Approvals and/or Listings. Model/Sprinkler Identification Numbers IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP 700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fall to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Design Criteria UL and C-UL Listing Requirements The 11.2 K-factor, Model ELO- 23IFRB (TY5131 & TY5231) Sprin- klers are to be installed in accordance with NFPA 13 standard sprinkler posi- tion and area/density flow calculation requirements for light, ordinary, or ex- tra hazard occupancies, as well as high piled storage occupancies (solid piled, palletized, rack storage, bin box, and shelf storage including but not lim- ited to Class l-IV and Group A plastics) with a minimum residual (flowing) pressure of 7 psi (0,5 bar) for wet pipe systems only. FM Approval Requirements The 11.2 K-factor, Model ELO- 23IFRB (TY5131 & TY5231) Sprin- klers are to be installed in accordance with the applicable "control mode den- sity/area" guidelines provided by Fac- tory Mutual for wet systems only. (FM guidelines may differ from UL and C- UL Listing criteria.) Operation The glass bulb contains a fluid that expands when exposed to heat. When the rated temperature is reached, the fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the glass bulb, allowing the sprinkler to activate and water to flow. Installation The Series ELO-231FRB Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instructions: NOTES Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 155°F/680C to 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 286°F/141°C temperature ratings. A leak tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a torque of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). A maxi- mum of 30 ft.lbs. (40,7 Nm) of torque is to be used to install sprinklers with 3/4 NPT connections. Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet and cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to make-up for insuffi- cient adjustment in the escutcheon plate by under- or over-tightening the sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. The Series ELO-23IFRB Upright and Pendent Sprinklers must be in- stalled in accordance with the follow- ing instructions. Step 1. Pendent sprinklers are to be installed in the pendent position, and upright sprinklers are to be installed in the upright position. Step 2. The plan submitted does not indicate the type of pipe to be installed, or the pipe which is already installed as a part of the existing system. Data sheets suggest that the pipe is to be Dyna-Thread, while the calculations use the diameters and fitting equivalents for Schedule 10. Field verify that Schedule 10 piping is installed. No indication of where hangers are to be provided on any new segment of piping. Field verfv that hangers are located in accordance with NFPA-13 requirements. The k-factor for the new sprinklers does not match between the calculations and the legend on the plan (5.6 vs. 11.2). This has been redlined, as 11.2 k-factor is noted elsewhere on the plans.
