RE: Cummins-Allison - Carlsbad, CA
2300 Faraday Court
Exhaust Ventilation Calculations
Dear Mr. Gow:
I am writing to follow up our telephone conversation, as it pertains to the exhaust ventilation of
flammable vapors within the Cummins-Allison facility located at 2300 Faraday Court.
As discussed in our conversation, "flammable vapor" is defined in the mechanical code as concentration
of flammable constituents in air exceeding 25% of its lower flammable limit (LFL). Based on Section
5.1.14 and Attachment #23 of my report (dated January 7, 2004), local exhaust ventilation proposed at a
rate of 298.43 cfm will maintain the flammable vapors for the proposed materials in use to below 25%
LFL.
Per UMC 506.6 and 610,6, sprinklers are required in ducts exceeding 10" in cross-sectional dimension
when ducts convey flammable vapors. Sprinklers are not required if the above conditions are met for
the proposed flammable materials in use.
If you have any questions or need additional information, do not hesitate to call me.
Sincerely
4~ UL~~
