A REND, Senior Deputy Program Manager t D263 Series 12124V Photoelectric Smoke and D273 Series Combined Smoke/Heat Detectors Features 12/24V photoelectric smoke and combined smoke/heat detectors Designed for commercial or residential use Two-wire (D263) or four-wire (0273) application Chamber Check® rapid-flash LED Automatic Trouble Indication reports contaminated chamber Flashing LEO power indicator Steady-on LED alarm indicator Removable terminal block to simplify wiring connections Cable connection point for voltmeter sensitivity test Description The 0263 and the 0273 Photoelectric Smoke Detectors use an LED light source and a silicon photo diode to measure tight in a chamber. In normal conditions the light source is absorbed in the chamber. The presence of a significant number of particulates allows the light to reflect to the photo diode. Diode measurements exceeding the alarm threshold cause the unit to signal an alarm condition. The detection chamber, designed for reliable smoke entry characteristics, is protected by a micro-fine insect screen to reduce dust accumulation and minimize nuisance alarms. To further reduce nuisance alarms, the 0263 and 0273 check their calibration. This Chamber Check® feature is automatic. If the detector is out of calibration for a period exceeding 24 hours, the Trouble/Alarm LED flashes once per second, three times the Normal rate. These detectors have an internal diagnostic test that is activated by an external magnet. This test results in specific LED and alarm circuit responses to indicate: Detector within calibration standards Detector settings outside sensitivity standards Detector not operational This test is especially useful in environmentally unstable or clean areas. The detector can be reset from the panel, after an alarm condition is cleared, by interrupting power. These detectors have a socket that accepts the 01005 test cable. The 01005 connects to the head and allows a voltmeter to read the sensitivity of the device. Depending on the specific need, the 0263 and 0273 series of detectors offer the following options: heat sensor, sounder, trouble relay, EOL relay and auxiliary relay. The 0263 and 0273 Series detectors can be used with Trim Plate TP280 for retrofit and remodeling purposes. TP280 has a diameter of 6 3/ in. (16.2 cm). Application Smoke detectors are intended for detection circuits that protect personnel. Heat detectors are appropriate for circuits that protect property. The D263 and 0273 Photoelectric Smoke Detectors are designed to detect the large smoke particles which typically result from wood, paper and fabric combustion. Installation The detector mounting plate installs over a back box that contains the wiring. Connect the wiring to the terminal block. The terminal block is removable to simplify wiring. Connect the terminal block to the detector and attach the detector to the mounting plate by hand by aligning the head with the plate and turning it clockwise. Install, test, and maintain these devices according to the Installation Instruction, NFPA 72, Local Codes, and the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Failure to follow these procedures may result in failure of the detector to initiate an alarm condition. Radionics is not responsible for devices that are improperly installed, tested, or maintained. AREND, Senior Deputy Program Manager D461 Manual Fire Alarm Pull Station Specifications Features Rugged die cast housing 14 gauge Plated steel back plate Single gang mounting Corrosion resistant construction 10 Amp 120 VAC contacts Key locked reset Screw terminal connections Optional break glass rod Latching pull down lever Description The Radionics' 0461 Manual Fire Alarm Pull Station is a single action, UL listed fire alarm initiating device. It has one set of normally open contacts rated for 10 Amps at 120 VAC. The 0461 has an easily identifiable pull down lever and contains an integral break glass rod carrier. The D461 is compatible with the following accessory devices: 0463 0465 0466 The unit is a high quality manual fire alarm box constructed entirely of non-toxic materials with a low profile and rounded edges to fit most design applications. All components are prepainted or have plated surfaces to inhibit corrosion. Non- corroding screw terminals are provided for wire connections to the 0461. The D461 is manufactured in conformance with the standards set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act. The D461 has a white pull down lever in its center. Pulling down the lever latches it into place. The 13461's normally open contact switch is shorted causing an alarm on the fire initiating loop. The pull down lever can not be reset unless the correct key is inserted into the manual fire alarm box lock and the unit is opened. The latching lever can then be restored to its normal position. When the 0461 is being reset and has a glass break rod installed, all debris must be removed prior to installing another rod to ensure the unit will close and lock securely. D461 Manual Fire Alarm Pull Station Application The 0461 Manual Fire Alarm Pull Station is an accessory device for Radionics control/communicators and is typically used in fire alarm applications. Manual fire alarm boxes are generally installed near building fire exits such as lobbies or stairways. Persons evacuating the building during an emergency are able to initiate an alarm by pulling down a lever. This alerts others who may still be inside. Schools, factories, offices, and health care facilities are typical applications. The snap lock feature of the 0461 prevents the Unit from being reset without a key so the origin of the alarm can be more easily determined. The 10 Amp, 120 VAC contact rating allows the D461 to handle larger current loads. This makes the unit an ideal choice for both new installations and retrofits. Installation The Radionics' 0461 Manual Fire Alarm Pull Station is a UL listed fire alarm initiating device. The D461 is installed alone or with other approved mechanical devices on Radionics control/communicators. Manual fire alarm boxes must be installed according to codes set by the authority having jurisdiction. The 0461 mounts to a standard flush or surface mounted single gang switch box or plaster ring. Slotted screw holes allow for correct positioning during installation. Two corrosion resistant screw terminals are provided for wire connections. All wiring and installation is subject to the authority having jurisdiction. Install, test and maintain this device according to the Installation Guide, NFPA 72, Local Codes and the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Failure to follow these procedures may result in failure of the device to operate properly. NOTE: If the sprinkler system Is In service the owner or authorized representative should be notified, before any work is done on the system, that the valve controlling the water supply to the system may be closed for periods of time during the installation and testing of this device, resulting in all or portions of the system being inoperative during these periods. If the system is not in service and valve is closed, be sure that opening the valve will not allow any unwanted water flow due to openings in the system, such as heads off, broken or Incomplete piping, etc. Position the valve to fully open ("OPEN" should appear in the window of the housing). Partially close the valve while observing the direction that the target assembly moves. Reopen the valve. If the valve housing Is predrilled with a 1/2" NPT for installation of a monitoring switch, remove the 112" plug and fully open the valve. Make sure that "OPEN' appears in the window of the housing. GO TO STEP NO. 6. Remove the head and target assembly (consultation with valve manufac- turer Is recommended). If the target assembly moved up as the valve was closed, measure the distance from the bottom of the head to the lower part of the target assembly that will contact the trip rod of the PCVS (see Fig. 3). This is usually a plate or bar on the target assembly, on a side adjacent to the "OPEN/SHUT" plates. Subtract 1/8" from the measurement. If the target moved down as the valve was closed, measure the distance from the bottom of the head to the upper portion of the target assembly that will contact the trip rod of the PCVS (see Fig. 4). Add 1/8" (3,2mm) to this measurement. Mark the housing at the proper location. Using a 23/32" (1 8,2mm) drill bit, drill and then tap a 1/2" NPT in the housing on the side that coincides with the portion of the target assembly that will engage the trip rod of the PCVS. Replace the head and target assembly. Loosen the socket head screw that holds the nipple in the PCVS and remove the nipple. Screw the locknut that Is provided onto the nipple. Screw the nipple Into the 1/2" NPT hole in the valve housing - hand tighten. Tighten the locknut against the valve housing to secure the nipple firmly in place. Insert a scale or probe thru the nipple to measure the distance from the open end of the nipple to the target assembly. Subtract 1/2" (12,5mm) from this measurement. NOTE: In some cases, it may be necessary to attach an angle bracket to the target assembly to engage the PCVS trip rod. Using the special tool provided, loosen the two cover screws and remove the cover from the PCVS. Loosen the locking screw that holds the trip rod in place and adjust the rod length, from the end of the collar to the end of the rod, using the dimension determined in Step 9. Tighten the locking screwto hold the rod in place. NOTE: If trip rod length Is excessive, loosen the locking screw and remove the trip rod from the trip lever. Using pliers, break off the one (1) Inch long notched section (see Fig. 7). Reinstall trip rod and repeat Step 11 procedure. Partially close the valve (3 to 4 revolutions of the handle/hand wheel). Slide the PCVS unit as far as possible onto the nipple, observing which direction the rod will move when the valve Is closed. Orient the device to actuate the switches when the valve is open. Tighten the socket head screw in the collar. Carefully open the valve to the hilly open position. As the target moves to the open position it should engage the trip rod and actuate the switch(es). There should be a minimum overtravel of 1/2 revolution of the handle/hand wheel after the switch(es) actuate (a continuity meter connected to each set of contacts is one method that could be used to determine this). Slowly close the valve. The switch must operate during the first two revolutions of the handle/hand wheel or during 1/5 of the travel distance of the valve control apparatus from its normal condition. NOTE: Small adjustments of the target position may be necessary (consultation with valve manufacturer is recommended). Complete the required electrical wiring, connections and tests. The valve should be operated through the entire cycle of fully closed and fully open to determine the integrity of the PCVS installation and the signaling system. Checkthat all electrical and mechanical connectionsare secure. When the installation and testing are complete, return valve to its proper position. With the valve in the FULL OPEN position, locate the OSYSU across the valve yoke as far as possible from the valve gland, so that the trip rod lays against the non- threaded portion of the valve stem. Loosen the locking screw that holds the trip rod in place and adjust the rod length (see Fig. 4). When adjusted properly, the rod should extend past the valve screw, but not so far that it contacts the clamp bar. Tighten the locking screw to hold the trip rod in place. NOTE: If trip rod length is excessive, loosen the locking screw and remove the trip rod from the trip lever. Using pliers, break off the 1" (25mm) long notched section (see Fig. 5). Reinstall trip rod and repeat Step 3 procedure. Mount the OSYSU loosely with the carriage bolts and clamp bar supplied. On valves with limited clearance use J-hooks supplied instead of the carriage bolts and clamp bar to mount the OSYSU. Mark the valve stem at the center of the trip rod. Remove the OSYSU.
