Absent: Knight PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Winston led the pledge of Allegiance . APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the Regular Meeting held on Oct. 21, 2024 Council Chamber 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive Carlsbad, CA 92008 Motion by Chair Winston, second by Commissioner Revell, to approve the Minutes as presented. Motion carried, 5/1/1 (Knight Absent, Gisbert Abstain) PRESENTATIONS: None. CONSENT CALENDAR: None. PUBLIC COMMENT: Patrice Smerdu spoke regarding the Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative1s support of the city's community gardens. PUBLIC HEARINGS: None. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS: 1. 2025 PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING CALENDAR -Adopt a 2025 Parks & Rec- reation Commission meeting calendar. (Staff Contact: Mick Calarco, Parks & Recreation De- partment). Recommendation: Adopt a 2025 Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Calendar. Motion by Commissioner Allemann, second by Commissioner Gisbert to approve the regular meeting calendar as presented for calendar year 2025. Motion carried, 6/1 (Knight-Absent). 2. 2025 PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION WORK PLAN -Review, edit as needed, and accept the 2025 Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan and recommend its approval by the City Council. (Staff Contact: Mick Calarco, Parks & Recreation Department). Recommendation: Review, edit as needed, and accept the 2025 Parks & Recreation Commis- sion Work Plan and recommend its approval by the City Council. November 18, 2024 Parks & Recreation Regular Meeting Page 2 Motion by Chair Winston, second by Commissioner Sander to accept the 2025 Parks & Rec- reation Commission Work Plan and recommend its approval by the City Council. Motion car- ried, 6/1 (Knight -Absent). 3. PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT REPORT-Receive a report on recently completed and upcoming Parks & Recreation Department activities, donations and grants, as well as other topics of interest. (Staff Contact: Mick Calarco, Parks & Recreation Department) Recommendation: Receive the report. Recreation Services Manager, Mick Calarco and Parks Services Manager, Todd Reese pre- sented the item with a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the Office of the City Clerk). Commission received the report. COMMISSION COMMENTARY AND REQUESTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF MATTERS: This portion of the agenda is for the Commission to make brief announcements, brief reports of their activities and requests for future agenda items. The Commission asked if the City of Carlsbad ever collaborates with other cities for special events. DIRECTOR'S COMMENTS: Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Lancaster invited the Commissioners to Holiday at the Rancho on Dec. 7, 2024. He also mentioned that the Commission roles of Chair and Vice Chair will be up at the end of the year and that the election of those Commission Officers would be held in Janu- ary 2025. He also informed the commission that Recreation Services Manager Mick Calarco would be retiring as of Dec. 31, 2024. Lastly, he let the Commission know that first round inter- views for the Recreation Services Manager position would take place on Nov. 19, 2024, and there were a lot of great candidates.
