Meeting Date: Feb. 3, 2025 To: Traffic Safety & Mobility Commission Staff Contact: Alonso DeVelasco, Police Lieutenant alonso.develasco@carlsbadca.gov, 442-339-5578 Subject: Police Report Regarding Traffic and Mobility-Related Matters in the Fourth Quarter of 2024 Recommended Action Receive a quarterly report from a representative of the City of Carlsbad’s Police Department that will provide an overview of traffic and mobility-related police matters and notable news during the months of October, November and December 2024. Fiscal Analysis This action has no fiscal impact. Environmental Evaluation In keeping with California Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. Therefore, it does not require environmental review. Exhibits None. M/C rider suffered major injuries. ▪On Nov. 19, 2024, at 8:13 a.m., a 65-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as he entered a crosswalk at Carlsbad Blvd and Oak Ave. Ped suffered lower extremities and head injuries. Ped passed away on Dec. 4, 2024. No witnesses, and fault was listed as 50/50. ▪OTS DUI checkpoint on Dec. 13, 2024, at PAR and Gateway Rd: 1,909 vehicles passed through. 2 DUI arrests, 1 arrest for narcotics, 17 citations for unlicensed drivers.
