TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION
COMMISSION REPORT OF: June 1, 1987 ITEM NO. 6D
LOCATION: Paseo del Norte for a distance of 1, 150 feet
south of Palomar Airport Road.
INITIATED BY: Police Department
BACKGROUND:
DATA:
At this time, Paseo del Norte is designated as a "NO
TRUCK ROUTE" beginning at a point 1,150 feet south of
Palomar Airport Road and continuing to Poinsettia Lane.
Trucks with through city destinations are no longer
allowed to park in the Denny's Restaurant parking lot.
Therefore, allowing through'truck traffic on Paseo del
Norte is no longer necessary since there are no locations
for through truck traffic to park.
City of Carlsbad Municipal Code, Section 10.32.091
designates·Paseo del Norte as a truck route from Palomar
Airport Road southerly 1,150 feet. Available truck
parking in the vicinity of Denny's Restaurant has
recently been removed. Therefore, trucks traveling
south on Paseo del Norte have no place to park and would
have to continue on Paseo del Norte over the portion of
road not designated as a truck route.
Trucks which have business to conduct on Paseo del Norte
can still use this road. Through truck traffic now has
no reason to use Paseo del Norte south of Palomar
Airport Road.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Traffic Safety Coordinating Committee recommends
that a "NO TRUCK ROUTE" designation be established on
Paseo del Norte for a distance of 1,150 feet southerly
of Palomar Airport Road.
