Council Chamber 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive Carlsbad, CA 92008 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Manager Stropes led the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the special meeting held Nov. 13, 2024 Motion by Subcommittee Member Ferone, seconded by Subcommittee Member Chung, to approve the minutes as amended. Motion carried, 5/5. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. WELCOME & OPENING COMMENTS: Cultural Arts Manager, Craddock Stropes, opened the meeting and welcomed attendees. Reviewed and clarified the purpose and charge for the subcommittee. Reviewed agenda and meeting format. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS: 1. BARRIO TRAFFIC CIRCLE PUBLIC ART PROJECT AND ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS - Review artist presentations and select an artist or artist team for the Barrio Traffic Circle permanent public art project. (Craddock Stropes, Library & Cultural Arts Department) Recommended Action: Receive and review qualified artists' presentations for the Barrio Traffic Circle permanent public art project and select an artist or artist team. Subcommittee Members reviewed three artist presentations (on file in the Office of the City Clerk) and selected an artist or artist team for the Barrio Traffic Circle public art project. The three artists were in attendance and answered questions from the Public Art Advisory Subcommittee Members: Sijia Chen Studios, Roberto Salas, Mario Torero. Patty Corona spoke in support of artist Roberto Salas. Laurie Boone spoke regarding the chosen artist keeping the history of the community at the heart of the project. Julann Lodge spoke in support of artist Mario Torero. Dec. 19,2024 Public Art Advisory Subcommittee Special Meeting Page 2 Motion by Subcommittee Member Larson, seconded by Subcommittee Member Chung to approve Mario Torero as the artist selected for Barrio Traffic Circle permanent public art project.
