It is my understanding that clarification is required regarding the swimming pool under
construction at the above referenced project.
I have been informed that the pool is located within ten horizontal feet from the top of a
descending slope. Because of this, Pool Engineering, Inc. structural detail 501 for a
freestanding pool wall in accordance with the 2007 CBC has been issued for this project.
Please note that detail 501 includes an option to construct the pool with a 30-inch height
raised bond beam that is fully retaining soil. Provided that the subject pool is intended to
include a raised bond beam that is not retaining soil above the pool water line level, then
the raised bond beam may be constructed up to a maximum height of 36-inches.
