(Moran -Absent) INVOCATION: None. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Sheffler led the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting held Dec. 11, 2024 Counci l Chamber 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive Carlsbad, CA 92008 Motion by Trustee McBride, seconded by Trustee Sheffler, to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried, 4/0/1 (Moran -Absent). PRESENTATIONS: None. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. CONSENT CALENDAR: None. PUBLIC HEARING: None. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS : 1. LIBRARY REPORTS FOR NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 2024: Receive the Narrative Reports and Statistical Reports for November and December 2024. (Staff contacts: Andrea Hilliard and Laura Mendez, Library & Cultural Arts Department) Recommended Action: Receive the reports. The Board received the reports. 2. OVERVIEW OF LINK+: Receive a report on the library's new material sharing platform LINK+. (Staff contact: Katy Duperry and Laura Mendez, Library & Cultural Arts Department) Recommended Action: Receive the report. The Board received the report. Senior Librarian Katy Duperry and Principal Librarian Laura Mendez reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the Office of the City Clerk). Jan. 22, 2025 Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 2 Trustee Waidelich inquired about digital items and academic materials offered through Link+. Senior Librarian l<aty Duperry responded library items offered through Link+ are physical items due to constraints around sharing digital items, and the academic materials offered are unique to each institution. 3. SEMI-ANNUAL DONATION REPORT: Receive the semi-annual donation report for the first six months of FY 2024-25. (Staff contact: Debbie Jo McCool, Library & Cultural Arts Department) Recommended Action: Receive the report. The Board received the report. Management Analyst Debbie Jo McCool reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the Office of the City Clerk). 4. FISCAL YEAR 2025-26 BUDGET POLICIES AND TIMELINES: Receive the fiscal year 2025-26 budget policies and timelines report. (Staff contact: Fiona Everett, Library & Cultural Arts Department) Recommended Action: Receive the report. The Board received the report. Senior Management Analyst Fiona Everett reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the Office of the City Clerk). BOARD COMMENTARY AND REQUESTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF MATTERS: The Board Members make brief announcements, brief reports of their activities and requests for future agenda items. Trustee Waidelich reported the Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation had 56 attendees at the holiday party. The foundation would like to sponsor a reopening event for the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, author events and a percussion play project at the Georgina Cole Library. DIRECTORS COMMENTS: Deputy Library Director l<atie Nye commented on the following: • Carlsbad Reads Together 2025 selection "The Cemetery of Untold Stories" by Julia Alvaraz • 2025 Winter Reading Challenge • Personnel updates • New Xerox machines at all library locations • Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium audio/visual upgrade • Fire alarm system upgrade at the Georgina Cole Library • Museum Month passes • Library Board of Trustees work plan to be presented to city council Feb. 4 • All library locations will be closed on Feb. 17 in observance of Presidents' Day • William D. Cannon Art Gallery new exhibit and reception Jan. 22, 2025 Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 • Tai Chi returns to the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane in April • Successful Friends of the Carlsbad Library holiday boutique ANNOUNCEMENTS: This section of the Agenda is designated for announcements to advise the community regarding events that Members of the Board have been invited to, and may participate in.
