Executive Summary Recreation Area Manager Eric Biggin and Recreation Supervisor Andi Koller will report on recently completed and upcoming senior activities, donations and grants, as well as other topics of interest. Exhibits 1. Department Report on Senior Activities and Programs SENIOR COMM,ISS I ON Staff Report \ Exhibit 1 ADULTS 50+ ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT REPORT Feb. 27, 2025 GENERAL Goal 1: Determine the needs of adults 50+ • On Nov. 20, 2024, the Senior Center hosted a presentation on "How Caregivers Combat Loneliness," which led to the launch of the monthly "Caregiver Networks Club" starting Feb. 1, 2025, offering support for caregivers and providing insights to senior mental health needs. • On Dec. 12, 2024, the Senior Center hosted an "E-Bike Safety" presentation and demonstration to address senior transportation safety. • The Senior Center provided workshops on senior safety and digital literacy, including the monthly "Stay Safe Online", "Seniors Against Scams" on Jan. 21, 2025, and "Digital Health Literacy" on Jan. 22, 2025. • From Jan. 14 , 2025 to Feb 14, 2025, Senior Center staff led a discussion group and collected surveys to gather community input for a new Senior Social Club. Goal 2: Support the City of Carlsbad Age-Friendly Carlsbad Action • The Senior Center provided holiday lunches for Thanksgiving and Christmas serving 100 guest each on Nov. 27 and Dec. 23, 2024. Holiday cards made by preschoolers and Leadership In Training and Education (L.I.T.E.) participants were packaged for Home Delivered Meal (H.D.M.) recipients. • On Jan. 14, 2025, Dr. Sebastian presented on "Neuropathy and Balance" discussing balance, mobility, and therapies for healing. Goal 3: Create Adult 50+ opportunities and collaborations beyond the Senior Center • Senior Center staff strengthened intergenerational connections through community partnerships. On Nov. 21, 2024, Kids for Peace volunteers brought Jefferson fourth graders to the congregate lunch, and on Jan. 25, 2025, they decorated municipal vehicles with kind messages during the “Kindness Move-a-thon” event. • Senior Center staff expanded recreational opportunities through a new monthly Pinochle group on Nov. 18, 2024, and a weekly Rummikub group on Feb. 1, 2025. • Senior Center staff organized senior excursions, including a visit to the Cedros Avenue Design District on Nov. 15, 2024, and a visit to the Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A.) museum on Jan. 16, 2025. • On Nov. 6, 2024 and Dec. 4, 2025, local Girl Scout troops provided technology assistance sessions at the Senior Center to bridge digital literacy gaps. • AARP Tax-Aide services returned to the Senior Center, offering 100 – 120 weekly appointments between Feb. 4, 2025 and Apr. 15, 2025. Goal 4: Increase social inclusion, enhance connectivity and minimize isolation • The monthly Courtyard Concerts featured Daniel Newheiser on Nov. 18, 2024, La Don Jones on Dec. 9, 2024, Dean Ratzman on Jan. 13, 2025, and Ancora on Feb. 10, 2025. • On Dec. 9, 2024, the Senior Center partnered with the Carlsbad L.I.T.E. program to host the first “Holiday Bingo Social”, complete with treats and prizes. • The Senior Center hosted the annual "Hula Holiday" on Dec. 11, 2024, and Seaside Singers Concerts on Dec. 18 - 19, 2025 with over 350 attendees. • Be A Santa to a Senior collected gifts for H.D.M. participants on Dec. 20, 2024. The Carlsbad L.I.T.E. program created candy grams for H.D.M. and Congregate meal participants on Feb. 14, 2025. • Seniors celebrated the Lunar New Year on Jan. 27, 2025 with a special Creative Cuisine class and a free Qigong workshop led by Qigong Master Fay MGrew on Jan. 29, 2025. {'city of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation • Senior Center staff encouraged physical activity by leading walking groups, adding a new Saturday walk led by a Cruisers participant on Feb. 1, 2025, and continuing walks in the mall during the rainy season. • On Feb. 14, 2025, the Valentine’s Social kicked off the new Senior Social Club with 50 attendees. OTHER UPDATES Special Revenue Fund • Senior Center Special Revenue Fund budget/donations review  Current fund balance – $320,665.64  Oct. 15, 2024 – Jan. 31, 2025 o DONATIONS: $20.00 o MISC REVENUE: $7,157.60 – Consists of Fitness Center drop-in fees and memberships o EXPENDITURES: $4,800 – Includes costs to host four Concerts in the Courtyard and the June volunteer appreciation event.
