Monthly Library Report
February 2025
Highlights: 1. Museum Month 2025
Library & Cultural Arts Department joined San Diego regional public libraries in support of
Museum Month during the month of February. Residents were able to pick up physical
passes at all three library locations to receive half-price admission to over 70 museums
throughout the county during the month of February; digital pass options were also
available.
Services: 2. Book Bike
The library’s Book Bike has relocated to the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane to serve as a
temporary book display during the month of February. This move is part of a new initiative
to utilize the bike in creative and productive ways during the winter and rainy season. Up
next, the bike will be rolling to the Earth Month Celebration at Pine Avenue Park on April 12
to provide seeds, free books and information on Library & Cultural Arts Department
programs and services.
Special Projects: 3. Literacy Field Trip
A group of five learners and one tutor from the adult literacy program, along with
Community Outreach Supervisor Sandra Riggins, took a field trip to the Exploration HUB on
Feb. 28 to develop digital literacy skills, improve confidence and build community.
Attendees for this private session were taught by Library Assistant Brandon Tiongison and
Library Technician Marq Schuling. Participants learned how to use Tinkercad and created a
3D project.

Community Connections: 4. Front Porch Gallery Event
Library Technician Mary Moreno Christian worked her first outreach event at Front Porch
Gallery on Feb. 21. The gallery was hosting an art talk for all ages featuring outsider and folk
art. The library offered on-site card registration with a selection of books to check out that
supported the topics in the talk. Eight of the 12 attendees registered for a card and learned
about library programs and services.
5. English Learner Parent Advisory Committee (ELAC)
Community Outreach Supervisor Christina Lorenzo attended a Carlsbad Unified School
District ELAC meeting and shared information about Homework Zone, English as a Second
Language courses, Career Online High School and various programs and services. The
meeting was hosted at Calavera Middle School and was attended by two parents, three
students, and four school administrators.
6. Farmers Market
Librarian Yolanda Aubuchon, Library Technicians Antonio Garcia Hernandez and Melanie
Veteto and Lead Librarian Darin Williamson attended the Farmer's Market on Feb. 19 to
promote library programs and services while giving away books, seeds and information.
Staff engaged with 433 people while promoting California State Parks passes, Museum
Month passes, Libby, genealogy services, Seed Library and the February Cole Library
calendar of events.
7. Homeschool Families Tours
Lead Librarian Matt Beatty hosted a group of 15 homeschoolers for a tour of Dove Library’s
Children’s Services area. Matt was assisted by Circulation Supervisor Patti Wiebe, who
offered a demonstration of the library’s automated book sorter. The children were
especially excited by this presentation. One homeschooling parent revealed that they had
scheduled the tour as their children had thoroughly enjoyed a recent tour at the Georgina
Cole Library.
8. Grauer School Tours
Twenty-seven students from the Grauer School visited the Dove Library over two days in
early February for a tour and research workshop conducted by Librarian Ashleigh Hvinden.
The eleventh-grade students worked on their assignments to research World War II. With
the librarian’s assistance, they found print resources, used the “Gale in Context” database
and checked out items using their newly acquired library cards. Ashleigh has partnered with
the Grauer School for the past three years to host the workshops.
