CALL TO ORDER: 5:32 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Chung, George, Ferone, Nassiri, Breyer, Clark
Commissioner Carrillo arrived at 5:38 p.m.
INVOCATION: None.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Chung led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the regular meeting held February 6, 2025.

Motion by Commissioner Breyer, seconded by Commissioner Ferone, to approve the minutes as
presented. Motion carried, 5/0/1/1 (Carrillo -Absent, Clark-Abstain)

CONSENT CALENDAR: None.
PUBLIC HEARING: None.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
1. CARLSBAD READS TOGETHER 2025: Receive a report from staff on programs and events
scheduled for Carlsbad Reads Together 2025 . (Staff contact: Emily Hardy, Library & Cultural
Arts Department)
Recommended Action: Receive the report.
The Commission received the report.
Senior Librarian Emily Hardy reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on file in the Office of the
City Clerk).
2. SCHULMAN AUDITORIUM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UPDATE: Receive a report on the
Schulman Auditorium Capital Improvement Project. (Staff contact: Tom Johnston, Library &
Cultural Arts Department)
Recommended Action: Receive the report.

The Commission received the report.
Programs and Venues Coordinator Thomas Johnston reviewed a PowerPoint presentation (on
file in the Office of the City Clerk).
3. APPOINT AN ARTS COMMISSIONER TO PRESENT THE WORK PLAN TO CARLSBAD LIBRARY &
ARTS FOUNDATION: Appoint an Arts Commissioner to report updates on the Work Plan to
Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation. (Staff contact: Craddock Stropes, Library & Cultural Arts
Department)
Recommended Action: Appoint an Arts Commissioner to present the work plan to
Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation.
Motion by Commissioner George, seconded by Commissioner Breyer, to appoint
Commissioner Nassiri to provide updates on the Work Plan to Carlsbad Library & Arts
Foundation. Motion carried, 7 /0.
COMMISSION COMMENTARY AND REQUESTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF MATTERS: The
Commission Members make brief announcements, brief reports of their activities and requests
for future agenda items.
CULTURAL ARTS MANAGERS COMMENTS:
Cultural Arts Manager Stropes commented on the following:
• Thanked the Commissioners for their dedication to attending events
• Community Arts Grants will be on the agenda for the Arts Commission meeting on May
1 on the agenda for
• Veterans Memorial Park artist Gordon Heuther will be Arts Commission meeting on May
1 to present initial art concepts for the commis~ion's feedback
• Greenmeme, the team selected for the Chestnut Underpass project, has been
rescheduled to visit and do public outreach events
• The Barrio Traffic Circle project will be going to City Council in June for authorization to
award the construction contract
• A catalogue was provided to the commission for the current exhibit in the William D.
Cannon Art Gallery
• Open Studios event with artist Fredric Hope on April 17
• Wicked Sing Along on April 19 and planned activities
• Recruitment for upcoming TGIF Concerts in the Parks staff
• TGIF Concerts in the Parks bank lineup will be announced in May
• The performance crew staff supports Chamber of Commerce events including an
upcoming Green Business Expo on April 16 and the Carlsbad Village Fair on May 4

• The Cannon Gallery will be extending its hours on Friday nights and will be open from 12
to 7 p.m.
• Volunteers needed for the Front of House/Usher program at the Schulman Auditorium,
TGIF Concerts in the Parks and the Cannon Gallery will be restarting the Docent program
• Upcoming Community Arts Grantee events
