[END] Structural Feasibility Report PROJECT NUMBER: 230215 | PROJECT NAME: SPARKFUND BRIDGESTONE OCEANSIDE ACROS ENERGY | acrosenergy.com | 512.663.9058 | info@acrosenergy.com 1 / 5 October 24, 2023 Subject: Structural Feasibility Report for Sparkfund – Bridgestone Oceanside 2545 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054 To: Tripp Hyde President Hyde Renewables 4735 Walnut St, Suite 110 Boulder, CO 80301 Via email: tripp@hyderenewables.com From: Barrett Crook, PE Sepehr Dara, PhD, PE Summary Acros Energy was retained by Hyde Renewables to assess Sparkfund - Bridgestone Oceanside located at 2545 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054 for addition of photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays to its roof. This is a preliminary study of the existing structure in relation to the proposed PV system addition. The building is a one-story steel framed roof which appears to have been built between 1967 and 1978. The roof framing consists of 1½ inch Type B 18 Gauge Metal Deck supported by steel beams, which in return are supported by tapered steel girders. Acros has determined that the existing roof is feasible for added solar PV arrays up to the following limit: PV Reserve Capacity = 8 psf For total PV system weight limit, concentrated point load capacity, and attachment strengths refer to the body of this report. The selected racking manufacturer is to design the system within the limitations prescribed in this report. Please submit a full set of racking drawings and calculations to Acros for review as soon as they are available. • ACROS Energy Structural Feasibility Report PROJECT NUMBER: 230215 | PROJECT NAME: SPARKFUND BRIDGESTONE OCEANSIDE ACROS ENERGY | acrosenergy.com | 512.663.9058 | info@acrosenergy.com 2 / 5 Introduction Acros Energy was retained by Hyde Renewables to assess Sparkfund - Bridgestone Oceanside located at 2545 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054 for addition of photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays to its roof. The scope of this report includes the assessment of the roof framing of the above referenced building for PV addition, the specification of the potential gravity reserve capacity, maximum allowable total weight to be added to the roof, maximum concentrated downward point load, and design strength of the mechanical attachments to be used in PV installation. Applicable Local Codes and Loads The analysis was performed based on the local building code design requirements. The performed design checks satisfy the requirements of the 2022 California Building Code, as published by the California Building Standards Commission, which references the following: 2021 International Building Code Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, ASCE 7-16 ANSI/AISC 360—16: Specification for Structural Steel Buildings Per the local building code, the snow load and live load are as follows: Ground Snow Load 0 psf Minimum Design Roof Snow Load 0 psf Design Roof Snow Load 0 psf Roof Live Load 20.0 psf (Reducible) Note that these design criteria are only to be used for the evaluation of the existing structure and should not be used for the design of the racking system. The racking designer and/or manufacturer is responsible for determining the site-specific design loads per the requirements of the local jurisdiction. • I\ . , .~I Energy Structural Feasibility Report PROJECT NUMBER: 230215 | PROJECT NAME: SPARKFUND BRIDGESTONE OCEANSIDE ACROS ENERGY | acrosenergy.com | 512.663.9058 | info@acrosenergy.com 3 / 5 Roof Framing Reserve Capacity The structure was analyzed for the estimated dead load listed below together with the proposed PV addition. Dead Load is based on the dead load observed at the site and snow load is from the governing building code. Acros visited the site on 10/05/2023 and documented the roof framing members, which were analyzed, and their design checked against the listed loading condition. Acros found the roof framing members to have adequate capacity to support the listed loads. Loading Condition with PV Roofing and Insulation 2.0 psf Plywood Deck 3.0 psf Framing 4.0 psf MEP + Miscellaneous 7.0 psf Total Girder Dead Load 16.0 psf PV 8.0 psf Snow Load 0.0 psf Total Load 24 psf Based on 2022 California Building Code 1607A.14.4, roof live loads need not be applied to the area covered by photovoltaic panels where the clear space between the panels and the roof surface is 24 inches or less. The PV reserve capacity for this roof is given with the understanding that low profile solar panels with a maximum height of 24 inches are to be used, and the live load is taken as zero. Therefore, based on 2022 California Building Code 1607A.14.4 and Acros’ analysis, the existing roof at Sparkfund - Bridgestone Oceanside located at 2545 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054, is feasible for added solar PV arrays up to a limit of 8.0 psf* for the area marked in green below. The area marked in grey below was not evaluated for PV addition. • Energy Structural Feasibility Report PROJECT NUMBER: 230215 | PROJECT NAME: SPARKFUND BRIDGESTONE OCEANSIDE ACROS ENERGY | acrosenergy.com | 512.663.9058 | info@acrosenergy.com 4 / 5 Total PV System Weight The total PV system weight added to the roof of the building should be limited to the following value: Maximum Total PV System Weight 16,000 lbs The above weight is in accordance with the 2022 California Existing Building Code Sections 503.4: Any existing lateral load-carrying structural element whose demand-capacity ratio with the addition and/or alteration considered is not more than 10 percent greater than its demand-capacity ratio with the addition and/or alteration ignored shall be permitted to remain unaltered. If the demand- capacity ratio is increased by more than 10 percent, the subject structural element is checked against the applicable Code criteria for new structures. Concentrated Point Load Capacity and Attachment Strengths Maximum Concentrated Downward Load For concentrated loads spaced at 3 ft o.c. – assuming the use of an Ironridge racking system and PV layout in the provided HelioScope - the concentrated downward loads imposed to the existing structure from the racking support points should be limited to the following values: Maximum Concentrated Downward Load 340 lbs Ironridge to provide a full racking package with module and support layout showing the spacing between the support points and geometry of support points. The above-listed downward concentrated load capacities are given for the specified point load spacing. The provided values may be subject to change upon receipt of actual point load spacing. The listed values are given to help in the initial design stages of the racking system, but they may be subject to change if the specified point load spacing is different from the one assumed above. The racking manufacturer should limit the forces on the support points to the listed values. Attachment Strengths Attachment strengths have been provided below for Ironridge FRA with U-shaped bracket. If this system is utilized, it is essential to restrict the loads on the attachments to the following values: Attachment Type Fasteners Attachment Strength Uplift (lbs) Shear (lbs) Ironridge FRA 8 x No. 15 300 300 All fasteners must penetrate the steel deck for the design strengths to be applicable. Please submit full racking drawings and calculations to Acros for review as soon as they are available. • Energy I I I I I Structural Feasibility Report PROJECT NUMBER: 230215 | PROJECT NAME: SPARKFUND BRIDGESTONE OCEANSIDE ACROS ENERGY | acrosenergy.com | 512.663.9058 | info@acrosenergy.com 5 / 5 Terms and Limitations The analysis and the results presented in this report were made with the following assumptions and limitations: ✔ Acros Energy performed the analysis based on the information provided.
