Inspection of footi n g t r e n c h excavation for b~i lding retaining
wall on s ub ject lot was made on April 1 9 , 1984.
The highly expansive c l ay in the foo t ing trench wa s r emo ved in
areas wh ere t h e clay was less t ha n 3 Feet t hic k . In a reas wh e r e the
clay was over 3 feet thick, th e c lay was over excavated to a depth
of 3 feet below t he base of t h e footings. There was a l s o a s mall
a r ea u nder t h e retaining wall t ha t was ov e r excavated appro xi mately
6 feet b elow t h e base of t he foo t ing . Gravel wa s used as t h e re-
placement material .
The Footing tren c h on Lo t 210 is acceptable for const ruction.
