DESCRIPTION The Viking Standard Response ELO Upright and Pendent Sprinklers are ther- mosensitive glass bulb spray sprinklers available in several different finishes and temperature ratings to meet design requirements. The special Polyester and Teflon® coatings can be used in decorative applications where colors are desired. In ad- dition, these coatings have been investigated for installation in corrosive atmos- pheres and are. cULus listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval Chart. (Note: FM Global has no approval classification for Teflon® and Polyester coat- ings as corrosion resistant.) If I The extra-large orifice provides greater flows at lower pressures than standard orifice or large orifice sprinklers. This feature allows reduced pipe sizing for hydraulically Upright Pendent calculated sprinkler systems, which require high densities of water. Viking Standard Response Extra-Large Orifice Sprinklers may eliminate the need for a fire pump or reduce the size of the pump if it is required. On existing systems, replacing large orifice sprinklers with extra-large orifice sprinklers may provide the higher densities required to allow an increase in the hazard classification of an occupancy. Viking standard response sprinklers may be ordered and/or used as open sprinklers (glass bulb and pip cap assembly removed) on deluge systems. Refer to Ordering Instructions on page 13f. By permitting the housings to slide on the angled bolt pads, rigidity is obtained. This rigidity is particularly used for fast, easy assembly of Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) and Extra Large Orifice (ELO) sys- tems frequently used for warehouse storage protec- tion. A new gasket design eases installation and the angle- pad housing allows swing- over assembly. The gasket is designed to seal on the joined pipe ends and around the outlet. Subsequent testing was done for purlin applica- tions on May 5, 1997 using.037 or 20 gauge steel. Metric Sizes Sammy Super ScrewsTM and SidewindersTM are available to hang metric threaded rod (6mm, 8mm, and 10mm) or bolt stock. Sammy Nut Drivers Special nut drivers were designed to be used with the Sammy Super ScrewTM anchoring system. When the appropriate nut drivers are used for installation the driver spins free on the screw after installation is complete and eliminates the expected wrist snap, reduces over-torque, and prevents screw failure. See installation procedures on pages 18 and 19. Stainless Steel Screws For standard stainless steel inventory, refer to pages 10 and 11. Additional screws can be made with mild screws and stainless steel heads. Please call 888.773.0001 for additional information. Steel Screws Due to variations in hardness of certain metals, it should be noted our self-drilling screws for steel will experience different drill rates. 5004 500 RPM drill speed should be tried. Resulting drill chips should not be blue in color. Residual drill chips that are blue in color indicate the drill RPM level is too high. Vibratory Environments For attaching or anchoring in high vibratory environments, special care should be taken not just for building attachments but also for the hangers or assemblies being supported. Consult local code authorities for accepted anchoring devices. TJl Joist I Truss Truss manufacturers vary installation recommendations for TJI joist. Sidewinders SWG 20 and SWG 25-3180 can be installed into the top cord of a truss. Sammy GST 20 can be installed into the center of the lower cord of a TH. Penetration of the upright center web is permitted by some joist manufacturers. Pre-drilling may be required by joist manufacturers. If so, pre-drill pilot 1/8" smaller than root diameter of fastener. Consult table below: Model Root Diameter Hole Size GST2O 0.182 1/8" GST 25-380 0.280 7/32' SW620 0.182 1/8" SWG25-380 0.280 7/32" To increase efficiency of the installation process, sleeve tools, bit receivers and wood bits are available for pre-drilling. NFPA Requirements Sammy screws noted with NFPA under "Approvals" column meet NFPA requirements. Check with local Authority Having Jurisdiction to confirm application and usage.
