Installation Instructions General Instructions Do not pull on the deflector when moving Model RFC43 and RFC56 Sprinklers from the shipping carton. Install sprinklers after ceiling is in place. Never apply paint or any other coating to sprinkler or concealed sprinkler cover plate. Do not install concealed sprinklers in ceilings which have positive pressure in the space above, and do not cover the cup vent holes. An open plenum space must be above the sprinkler cup. Use the proper wrench (Figs. 1 and 2) to install sprinklers. Face of sprinkler fitting to ceiling is 2" max. for the RFC42 and 2" max. for the RFC56. Ceiling hole diameter is 2%". Final adjustment of each cover is made by hand turning the cover plate in the clockwise direction until it is tight against the ceiling. Approval Organizations Underwriters Laboratories Inc. and UL certified for Canada (cULus) ULl Listing Category: Residential Automatic Sprinklers ULI Guide Number: VKKW Models RFC43 and RFC56 are UL Listed Residential Sprinklers and are intended for use in accordance with NFPA13 Paragraph 4-3.6 in residential portions of any occupancy, in one and two family dwellings and mobile homes, (NFPA-13D), and residential occupancies up to four stories in height (NFPA-13R). The letters RFC43", or "RFC56', temperature, K factor, and year are stamped on the deflector. Cover plate: 135°F (57°C) Sprinkler Temp. Rating: 165°F (74°C) Max. Pressure: 175 psig Max. Ceiling Temp.: 100°F (38°C) When in doubt as to ceiling temperature, measure with an accurate thermometer. Installation Model RFC43 and RFC56 sprinklers are to be installed in ceilings with a plenum space above that does not have positive pressure. In addition, inspect all sprinklers after installation to ensure that both the gap between the cover plate and ceiling and the (4) slots in the cup are open and free of any air flow impediment. After a 2% inch diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the sprinkler is to be installed with the proper wrench (Figs. 1 and 2). When installing a sprinkler, the wrench is first positioned into the sprinkler/cup assembly and around the sprinkler frame. The Wrench must bottom out against the cup in order to ensure proper, safe installation. The sprinkler is then tightened into the pipe fitting. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER/CUP ASSEMBLY. MODEL RFC43 AND RFC56 CONCEALED SPRINKLERS MUST BE INSTALLED ONLY WITH 135°F RATED COVERS. Technical Data Minimum Required Nominal K Sprinkler Maximum Sprinkler Discharge Minimum Distance Model In. Any other type of wrench may damage the sprinkler. Glass bulb sprinklers have orange bulb protectors to minimize bulb damage during shipping, handling and installation. REMOVE THIS PROTECTION AT THE TIME THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS PLACED IN SERVICE FOR FIRE PROTECTION. Removal of the protectors before this time may leave the bulb vulnerable to damage. RASCO wrenches are designed to install sprinklers when covers are in place. REMOVE PROTECTORS BY UNDOING THE CLASP BY HAND. DO NOT USE TOOLS TO REMOVE THE PROTECTORS.
