After further review, I have come to no other conclusion than that you shall provide the
required vertical (Flue) spacing between each movable rack. National Fire Protection
Association, Standard 13, 7-4.1.4.1 (see attached) which is the recognized standard to
which fire protection is designed for these applications requires a six-(6) inch flue space
between each rack. This may be accomplished most effectively by placing three-(3) inch
spacers on each rack.

tudinal (back-to-back clearance between loads) flue space

flue spaces between loads and at-rack uprights shall be main-
tained in single-row, double-row, and multiple-row racksjRan-
dom variations in the width of flue spaces or in their vertical
alignment shall be permitted. (See Figure 7-4.1.4.1)
74.1.4.2 Storage Height Over 25 ft (7.6 m). Nominal 6-in.
(142.4-mm) transverse flue spaces between loads and at-rack
uprights shall be maintained in single-row, double-row, and
'.lt1,.rw racks. Nominal 6-in. (152.4-mm) longitudinal
variations in the width of the flue spaces or in their vertical
alignment shall be permitted.
74.1.5 Protection Systems.
74.1.5.1* Sprinkler systems shall be wet pipe systems.
Exception: In areas that are subject to freezing or where special condi-
tions exist, dry-pipe systems and preaction systems shall be permitted.
74.1.5.2 Where dry-pipe systems are used, the ceiling sprinkler
areas of operation shall be increased 30 percent over the areas
specified by 74.2, 74.3, and 74.4. Densities and areas shall be
selected so that the final area of operation after the 30 percent
increase is not greater than 6000 ft2 (557.4 m2).
74.1.5.3 Where preaction systems are used, preaction systems
shall be treated as dry-pipe systems.

SUBMIT LETTER Submit a signed legible letter (preferably type written and on your
company's letterhead) stotirigyour intended use for the property. In the letter.' describe
materials you will be storing and using on the property. Explain the method of storage
(e.g. rocks, pallets), storage dimensions and where the materials will be located an the
property. Describe how you will be using the materials. Explain any alterations to the
building that are planned. (See attached example).

6. FIRE EXTINGUISHER REQUIREMENIS:

area. One extinguisher is required for every 6000 square feet and the travel distance to
a fire extinguisher shall not exceed 75 feet from any point.
