1. DESCRIPTION
Viking Micromatica and MicromaticHP11 Standard Response Upright and
Conventional (Old Style) Sprinklers are small, thermosensitive, glass-bulb spray
sprinklers available in several different finishes, temperature ratings, and K-
Factors to meet design requirements. The special Polyester and Teflon" coat-
ings can be used in decorative applications where colors are desired. In addi-
tion, these coatings have been investigated for installation in corrosive atmos-
pheres and are cULus listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval
Chart. (Note: FM Global has no approval classification for Teflone and Polyester coat-
ings as corrosion resistant.)
Viking standard response sprinklers may be ordered and/or used as open sprinklers
(glass bulb and pip cap assembly removed) on deluge systems. Refer to Ordering
Instructions on page hr.

INSTALLATION
Refer to appropriate NFPA Installation Standards.
OPERATION
During fire conditions, the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb expands, causing the glass to shatter, releasing the pip cap and
sealing spring assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the sprinkler deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern
to extinguish or control the fire.
INSPECTIONS, TESTS AND MAINTENANCE
Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements.

Sprinklers of Ultra-High temperature rating are intended for use inside ovens, dryers, or similar enclosures with normal operating temperatures above
300 °F (149 °C). Where the ambient temperature around the Ultra-High temperature rated sprinder is significantly reduced below 300 °F (149 °C), response time may be severely retarded.
The corrosion-resistant coatings have passed the standard corrosion test required by the apprcving agencies indicated on pages lit. These tests cannot and do not represent all possible corrosive environments. Prior to installation, verify through the end-user that the coatings are compatible with or suitable for the proposed environment. For automatic sprinklers, the coatings indicated are applied to the exposed exterior surfaces only. Note
that the spring is exposed on sprinklers with Polyester and Teflon® coatings. For Teflon® coated open sprinklers only, the waterway is coated.
Wax Over Polyester is unavailable for Sprinklers VK021 and VK124. 6 Wax melting point is 170 °F (76 °C) for 212 °F (100 °C) and 286 °F (141 °C) temperature rated sprinklers.

Micromati& and MicromaticHP® Standard Response Upright and Conventional Sprinklers are cULus Listed as indicated in the Approval Charts for
installation in accordance with the latest edition of NFPA 13 for standard spray sprinklers, or old style (conventional) sprinklers.
Designed for use in Light, Ordinary, and Extra Hazard occupancies (exception: small orifice sprinklers are limited to Light Hazard where allowed
by the installation standards being applied, with hydraulically calculated wet systems only).
The sprinkler installation rules contained in NFPA 13 for standard spray upright sprinklers must be followed. For conventional sprinklers, refer
to the installation guidelines for old style (conventional) sprinklers.
FM AoDroval Requirements:
Micromati& and MicromaticHP5 Standard Response Upright Sprinklers are FM Approved as indicated in Approval Chart 1 for installation in accordance
with the latest applicable FM Loss Prevention Data Sheets (includig 2-8N) and Technical Advisory Bulletins. FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheets
and Technical Advisory Bulletins contain guidelines relating to, but not limited to: minimum water supply requirements, hydraulic design, ceiling slope
and obstructions, minimum and maximum allowable spacing, and deflector distance below the ceiling.
NOTE: The FM installation guidelines may differ from cULus and/or NFPA criteria.
IMPORTANT: Always refer to Bulletin Form No. F_091699 - Care and Handling of Sprinklers. Also refer to page
SRI-3 for general care, installation, and maintenance information. Viking sprinklers are to be installed in ac-
cordance with the latest edition of Viking technical data, the appropriate standards of NFPA, FM Global, LPCB,
APSAD, VdS or other similar organizations, and also with the provisions of governmental codes, ordinances, and

Application
The Reliable Model G4
Concealer® is the most versatile
concealed sprinkler available. It
provides the best form of fire pro-
tection while offering an attractive
appearance and ½" (13mm) of
cover adjustment for ease of instal-
lation. The adjustable 1" NPT inlet
versions have 1)/2" (38mm) of total
adjustment and also eliminates the need for a reducing cou-
pling. The small diameter Push-on/Thread-off cover plate
assembly is easily attached and blends into the ceiling, con-
cealing the most dependable fire protection available, an
automatic sprinkler system.

Model G4 Concealed
Automatic Sprinkler
The Concealer® is designed for use where aesthetic ap-
pearance is important. Offices, hospitals, motels and res-
taurants are but a few of the applications where it can be
used. It is available in different orifice sizes allowing the de-
signer to optimize system performance, thereby achieving a
most efficient installation.
The Concealer® can eliminate the need for precise cutting
of drop nipples. The Push-on/Thread-off cover plate assem-
bly can be adjusted without tools so it mates accurately with
the ceiling. The fire protection system need not be shut
down to adjust or remove the cover plate assembly.
Product Description
The Reliable Model G4 Concealer® uses the proven
Model G fusible element in a standard style sprinkler frame
with a drop-down deflector. This assembly is recessed into
the ceiling and concealed by a flat cover plate. The
Push-on/Thread-off cover plate and sprinkler cup assem-
blies are held tight by a flexible tooth engagement to the
threaded cup. This threaded engagement provides ½"
(13mm) of cover adjustment. The flat cover plate is attached
to the skirt using an ordinary temperature classification sol-
der. This results in a strong cover plate assembly with an or-
dinary temperature rating, and an intermediate temperature
sprinkler which can be installed in 150°F (66°C) environ-
ments. When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder hold-
ing the cover plate to the skirt melts, the flat cover plate
released thus exposing the sprinkler inside to the rising am-
bient temperature.
The subsequent fusing of the sprinkler element opens the
waterway and causes the deflector to drop into position to
distribute the discharging water. Any secure engagement of
the threads between the cover plate and cup will assure that
the drop—down deflector is properly located below the ceil-
ing when a sprinkler operates.

Installation
Do not install The Concealer® in ceilings which have positive
pressure in the space in the space above.
After a 2/ inch diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the sprinkler
is to be installed with the Model G4 Wrench. The wrench has
drive tangs which insert into cup slots. When installing a sprin-
kler the wrench is first positioned into the sprinkler/cup assembly
until the wrench tangs engage drive slots in the top of the cup
(there are two sets of mating drive slots in the cup). The sprinkler
is then tightened into the pipe fitting. When inserting or removing
the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly care should be
taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH
ON ANY OTHER PART OFTHE SPRINKLER/CUPASSEMBLY.
The adjustable inlet versions are similar to the standard Model
G4 except that an addition 1" (25mm) of adjustment is provided
by means of a telescoping inlet section that threads in or out of a
stationary coupling reducer (either 1 male or 1 female) as shown
in Hg. 2 or Hg. 3. These sprinklers must be installed before the
ceiling is in place, by wrenching on only the coupling reducer

hex flats. After the ceiling has been installed with holes for the
sprinkler, each telescoping inlet section is to be adjusted with the
G4 Wrench. Install the push-on/thread-off cover plate assembly
over the sprinkler by holding and pressing it straight up into the
cup. Final adjustment of each cover assembly is made by hand
turning it clockwise until it is tight against the ceiling.
Maintenance
The Model G4 Concealer® should be inspected quarterly and
the sprinkler system maintained in accordance with NFPA 25.
Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any
other cleaning fluids. Remove any sprinkler that has been
painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any way. A
stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained to allow quick re-
placement of damaged or operated sprinklers. Prior to installa-
flon, sprinklers should be maintained in the original cartons and
packaging to minimize the potential for damage to sprinklers that
would cause improper operation or non-operation.
