LifeAlarm® Fire Alarm Controls Fire Alarm Controls 4004 Series Fire Alarm Control Panels; Two to Eight Zones 4004-9101 Fire Alarm Control Panel (shown with zone labels applied) INTRODUCTION Simplex 4004 Series fire alarm control panels provide easy installation, flexible initiating circuit monitoring, and extensive programmable control capability for areas requiring two to eight IDC zones. Installation ease has been considered throughout, from cabinet design to quick and easy setup. By employing surface mount components, seven segment LEDs, and efficient microprocessor programming, an extensive feature list is provided in a cost-effective and compact package. Panel status is efficiently indicated by discrete LEDs and an alphanumeric zone indicator/diagnostic display. Panel control switches are clearly marked for easy operation. Programming of the selectable features is quickly performed using the LED display and the panel control switches. APPLICATIONS The 4004 Series fire alarm control panel provides protection for a wide variety of smaller facilities in the following fields: Educational, Health Care, Business, Storage, Hospitality, Residential, and General Assembly. Due to its modular construction, the 4004 can be ordered with only the features needed. If the system expands, then additional modules (up to eight zones) can be easily installed on-site. ** WALKTEST performance testing is protected under US Patent No. 4,725,818. * This product has been approved by the California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) pursuant to Section 13144.1 of the California Health and Safety Code. S4004-0001-6 7/02 4004 Display/Control Panel CONTROL PANEL FEATURES Alarm Indication Upon receiving an alarm, the Fire Alarm Zone LED displays the number of the alarmed IDC. If multiple lDCs are in alarm, each number will alternately be chronologically displayed. During this time, the internal tone-alert signal will be sounding and the NACs will be operating as programmed. Alarm Silence To silence the alarm, the 'ALARM SILENCE" switch is momentarily pushed and the "ALARM SILENCED" LED will light. Repeated use of the "ACK" switch will scroll through the alarmed zone numbers in chronological order. Supervisory or Trouble Conditions Supervisory conditions are for monitoring devices such as waterflow tamper switches - conditions more serious than a trouble, but not considered an alarm. Troubles include open, shorted, or earthed wiring, AC power loss problems, or other indications (refer to trouble list below). The trouble type is displayed alphanumerically on the LED digits using upper and lower case letters and the period. LED Trouble Identification List IDC Zone Number IDC Auxiliary Output Annunciator Card Trouble Supervised Auxiliary Alarm Output Trouble Battery Low Trouble City Circuit Trouble Configuration Trouble Depleted Battery Trouble NAC 1 Trouble NAC 2 Trouble WALKTEST Enabled (System is in WALKTEST "Trouble") Program Trouble Power Supply Trouble Ground Fault Trouble Supervisory Condition Indication Supervisory conditions are annunciated by flashing the yellow Supervisory LED and activating the tone-alert and the common supervisory output. Supervisory zones are numerically displayed on the red Fire Alarm Zone indicator LED display with a decimal point identifier. Using the ACK switch will scroll the zone numbers chronologically. Alarm Acknowledge Momentarily pressing the "ACK" switch will acknowledge the alarm condition and will silence the local tone-alert signal. Supervisory Acknowledge During Supervisory conditions, the yellow SUPERVISORY LED will stop flashing and remain "on" until the condition is cleared and the panel is reset. Trouble Acknowledge During Trouble conditions, the yellow TROUBLE LED display identifies the specific trouble(s), chronologically scrolling through multiples troubles. Multiple Battery Status Monitoring Batteries are monitored for both presence and proper charging. Additionally, in the event that battery operation extends beyond the available battery capacity, a depleted battery trouble signal will warn when the battery charge is approaching depletion. WALKTEST Performance Testing Simplex WALKTEST performance testing allows a single fire alarm system tester to manually initiate remote troubles and alarms and obtain a verification output from the NACs with an automatic Reset. Alarms are initiated to produce a zone identifying pulse count. With the zone number confirmed, troubles can then be initiated and confirmed with a common pulse output. S4098-0015-5 10/02 "VIRTIVE, 116-711-1n. ml on 'i Intelligent Data Evaluation. Conventional smoke detectors will typically drift toward being too sensitive due to the accumulation of dust and dirt. With lrueAlarm analog detection, data from the photoelectric chamber is monitored and analyzed at the detector to provide a continuously shifting reference point. Drift Compensation. The data evaluation and its shifting reference point provide a software filtering process that compensates for environmental factors (dust, dirt, etc.) and component aging, establishing an accurate reference for evaluating new activity. With this filtering, the resulting drift compensation provides a significant reduction in the probability of false or nuisance alarms caused by shifts in sensitivity - either up or down. Magnetic Test Information. Status information is available by performing the magnetic test and observing the detector LED pulses. The LED will normally go directly into alarm with the magnetic test. If there is an off-normal condition, the LED pulses first to indicate the condition and then goes into alarm. (See page 3.) F21.11.11 lTwT11 Detector Locations. Locations should be determined only after careful consideration of the physical layout and contents of the area to be protected. Refer to NFPA 72, the National Fire Alarm Code. On smooth ceilings, smoke detector spacing of 30 ft (9.1 m) may be used as a guide. For detailed installation information, refer to 4098 Detectors, Sensors, and Bases Application Manual (574-709). Sensitivity Selection. The 4098-9601 standard sensitivity detector is recommended for most applications. When a special application for a reduced sensitivity detector is required, the 4098-9605 should be considered. Wall Mount Strobes Ceiling Mount Mount Strobes Descrintic Multi-Candela TrueAlert synchronized strobes provide convenient installation to standard electrical boxes. The enclosure designs are both impact and vandal resistant and provide a convenient strobe intensity selection. Since each model can be selected for intensity output, on-site model inventory is minimized and changes encountered during construction can be easily accommodated. Wall mount strobe housings are a one-piece assembly (including lens) that mounts to a single or double gang, or 4" square standard electrical box. The cover can be quickly removed (a tool is required) and covers are available separately for color conversion. Ceiling mount strobes install using standard single gang electrical boxes. Color choice is determined by model number. be Intensity Selectir, During installation, a selection plug at the back of the housing determines the desired strobe intensity. An attached flag with black letters on a highly visible yellow background allows the selected intensity to be seen at the side of the strobe lens. I Strnhe Annlirtinn Referenre Proper selection of visible notification is dependent on occupancy, location, local codes, and proper applications of: the National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72), ANSI A117. 1; the appropriate model building code: BOCA, ICBO, or SBCCI; and the application guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). S4906-0001 4/2004 Multiple Strobes. When multiple strobes and their reflections can be seen from one location, synchronized flashes reduce the probability of photo-sensitive reactions as well as the annoyance and possible distraction of random flashing. These multi-candela strobes are synchronized over a two-wire circuit when connected to compatible NACs, to compatible Synchronized Flash Modules, or to SmartSync Control Modules. ii'LIi!I Some applications desire the audible notification appliances to be capable of being silenced before the alarm condition is reset (on-until-silenced) while the visible notification appliances are kept activated until the alarm condition is reset (on-until-reset). SmartSync operation mode provides this function using a single circuit (two-wire operation). KIT Class B SmartSync two-wire control is available from: 4100U and 4010 Fire Alarm Control Panels; 4010 panels require operating software Revision 2.X or higher (refer to data sheet S4010-0001 for details; refer to data sheet S4100-0031 for basic 4100U information) 4009 IDNet NAC Extender, models 4009-9201 and 4009-9301 (refer to data sheet S4009-0002) SmartSync Control Module (SCM) 4905-9938, converts separate conventional horn and strobe NAC inputs into a SmartSync NAC output; up to eight SCMs can be synchronized to each other Class A SmartSync two-wire control is available from 4100U NACs and from the 4905-9938 SCM.
