Previous Project Success:
If your organization has completed a similar project, please provide details of the project and why it was
successful.
Our organization has hosted elements of this program in Carlsbad and throughout San Diego County and we
are now excited to develop a complete, comprehensive program for the Carlsbad community.
We previously hosted an Artist Business Development workshop on January 13, 2024 at the Carlsbad LIbrary.
The event was at full capacity within 36 hours of registration opening and was a huge success, with many
attendees reporting that it was incredibly informative and helpful. The workshop provided artists with
essential business knowledge, covering topics such as representation, pricing strategies, and industry best
practices. Due to the overwhelming interest, numerous artists requested additional sessions and expanded
programming.
This enthusiastic response highlighted the strong demand for professional development resources within the
Carlsbad arts community. By building on this success, we aim to develop a more comprehensive program that
equips artists with the tools they need to thrive.

Project Distinction:
What makes this project distinctive?
This project stands out by providing artists with direct access to industry professionals who bring real-world
expertise to every session. Unlike traditional art education programs, which often overlook the business side
of an artist’s career, this workshop series is designed specifically to bridge that gap—equipping artists with
the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to navigate the professional art world successfully.
Each session is led by local experts, including artist representatives, gallerists, and marketing professionals,
offering firsthand insights into industry expectations. The workshops go beyond theory, incorporating
practical exercises, real-world examples, and actionable takeaways that artists can immediately apply to their
practice.
Additionally, this series fosters a supportive community within Carlsbad where artists can connect, network,
and collaborate, creating lasting professional relationships. By focusing on sustainable career development
and empowering artists with essential business skills, this project provides an invaluable resource that is
often missing in the creative industry.
Project Goals:
What are the goals (outputs and/or outcomes) of the project? How will you measure your goals?
The primary goal of this project is to equip Carlsbad artists with the business skills necessary to sustain and
grow their careers. Through six interactive workshops led by industry professionals, artists will gain practical
knowledge in marketing, pricing, sales, contracts, and professional presentation.
Outputs (Measurable Deliverables):
Host six 90-minute workshops with expert speakers.
Engage at least 50 participating artists throughout the series.
Provide artists with customized resources (templates, guides, and worksheets) to implement learned
strategies.
Outcomes (Long-Term Impact):
Artists will demonstrate an increased understanding of business strategies, measured through pre- and post-
workshop surveys.
At least 75% of participants will report improved confidence in handling pricing, contracts, and marketing.
Participants will implement at least one professional change in their practice, such as updating their website,
adjusting pricing, or refining their portfolio, measured through follow-up surveys and participant
testimonials.
By tracking participation, collecting feedback, and following up on implementation, we will assess the
effectiveness of the program and its impact on artists’ careers
Target Population:
Who is your target population and why? How will you reach them?
This workshop series is designed for Carlsbad’s emerging and mid-career artists who seek to develop the
business skills necessary for a sustainable career in the arts. Many artists excel creatively but struggle with

the professional aspects of their practice, such as marketing, pricing, contracts, and industry networking. By
providing expert-led workshops, this program directly addresses those gaps, empowering artists to navigate
the art world with confidence and clarity.
Our target audience includes independent artists working in various media, from painting and sculpture to
digital and public art. The program is particularly beneficial for those looking to expand their market reach,
secure gallery representation, apply for grants, or improve their overall professional presentation.
To reach this audience, we will leverage a multi-channel outreach strategy:
Social Media Promotion: Targeted posts on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to engage the artist
community.
Eventbrite & Online Listings: Creating accessible event pages for easy registration and visibility.
Industry & Community Networks: Sharing through galleries, art organizations, universities, and artist
networks to maximize exposure.
This approach ensures broad outreach while directly engaging artists who will benefit most from the
workshops.
Project Partnerships:
If applicable, please provide names and brief descriptions of roles for any partners in this project. This would
include any organizations, artists or individuals involved in your project that are not employed or affiliated with the
applying organization.
Guest Speakers & Industry Experts: A curated group of professionals—including independent art advisors,
curators, art consultants, marketing specialists, and professional photographers—will lead sessions, offering
artists practical knowledge and real-world insights.
Local Art Organizations & Nonprofits: Collaborations with museums, nonprofit arts organizations, and artist
collectives will help promote the program and provide additional resources to participating artists.
Event & Promotion Platforms: Platforms like Eventbrite, social media networks, and local arts organizations’
mailing lists will be leveraged for outreach and participant engagement.
Partner Resumes:
If applicable, you may upload any resumes of teaching artists, artists or any other partners in the proposed project

Organization Changes/Challenges/Circumstances:
What special circumstances, challenges or changes have affected your organization? What impact has this had on
your organization?
One of the biggest challenges facing our nonprofit is the lack of consistent funding for visual arts
programming. Despite a strong demand for artist business development resources, securing sustainable
financial support remains an ongoing hurdle. We have addressed this by working closely with public agencies
and community partners to maximize the impact of our programs and ensure that artists continue to receive
essential professional development opportunities.

Additionally, we face the challenge of finding accessible venues to host workshops, networking events, and
exhibitions that generate economic impact for artists. The limited availability of affordable space in the region
has made it difficult to provide consistent, high-quality support for artists. To overcome this, we are actively
seeking partnerships with organizations that can offer space for creative programming.
As our organization continues to grow, we are also responding to the need for increased administrative
capacity. We are bringing on additional staff to help manage expanding programs, ensure grant compliance,
and strengthen our ability to serve artists effectively.
By addressing these challenges through strategic partnerships, funding initiatives, and capacity-building
efforts, we remain committed to supporting artists in developing sustainable careers and contributing to the
local arts economy.

Campana Studios’ Economic Advancement
Program for Visual Artists
A professional development program designed to equip visual artists with essential
business skills, supporting diverse artistic voices and strengthening the visual arts
ecosystem in Carlsbad.
Summary
This project is a six-part artist business development workshop series designed to
equip visual artists in Carlsbad with the essential professional skills needed to sustain
and grow their careers.
Led by industry professionals, these workshops will cover key topics such as
marketing strategies, website development, pricing structures, presentation
materials, community engagement, and industry insights. Many artists struggle with
the business side of their practice, and this program seeks to bridge that gap by
providing practical knowledge, accessible resources, and expert guidance in a
welcoming and inclusive environment.
Through interactive sessions and real-world case studies, participants will learn how
to effectively position their work in the marketplace, develop compelling
promotional materials, and navigate industry expectations. The workshops will
emphasize accessibility and inclusion, ensuring that artists from diverse
backgrounds and experience levels can participate and benefit.
This project fosters a stronger arts community in Carlsbad and North San Diego
County, providing networking opportunities, mentorship, and professional
development that will help artists contribute to the local creative economy. By
empowering artists with these skills, this program creates a lasting impact, helping
them navigate the complexities of the art world with confidence, sustainability, and a
greater connection to the regional arts scene.
