Subject: Expansive Soil T est s and Recommendations

Dear Mr. Chaky:
In accordance with your request our firm has conducted an
investigation of the expansive characteristics of the surface and
subsurface soils located on your proposed building site at 2650
Vistosa Place, La Costa area of the City of Carlsbad. The pro-
perty is also described as Lot 443 of La Costa South Unit No. 6.
Three shallow hand dug pits and one machine augered boring were
p laced within the boundaries of the proposed hous e in order to
obtain a representative sample of the underlying bearing soils.
The collected soil samples were taken to our laboratory
where mechanical analysis and expansion tests were performed.
As a r esuit of these tests the sampl ed soils have been classified
as fine sands. They are non-expansi ve and therefore possess
less than three percent swell as measured by the County of San
Diego Test for Expansive Soils.
Due t o the non-expansive nature and good bearing charac-
t e ristics of the natural ground soils and compacted fill soils on
thi s site, the following foundation recommendations can be used :

minimum depth of 12 inches into the firm natural
ground or compacted fill. The continuous found-
ations shall be reinforced with one No. 4 steel bar
located near the bottom of the footing.
2. Concrete floor slabs if used shall be founded on
at least 4 inches of imported clean sands or de-
composed granite and a moisture barrier shall
be provided.
The above recornme·ndations precludes those given by
' Benton Engineering Incorporated for Type B clay soils in
their Final Report on Compacted Fill Ground, Project No.
70-3-l0D, August 3, 1970. The firm of C. W. La Monte and
Associates does not hereby accept responsibility for the con-
dition and stability of fill soils placed under the direction of
Benton Engineering Inc. and certified in the above mentioned
report. We have investigated only the expansive characteristics
of the soils on the subject lot and based on those test results
developed alternate foundation recommendations consistant
with sound engineering practice and design.

adopted Resolution No. 542 which provided for the expiration of sewer permits after
30 days if a building permit had not been obtai~ed.
Therefore, your .sewer permit No. 6264 dated 3-9-77 for property
located at 2650 Vistosa Pl. Carlsbad has expired and the permit is
hereby cancelled. The connection fee will be refunded to you at the Board meeting
to be held on·· July 14, 1977. •.
If it is your intention to pursue a building permit for thi s property you
may reapply for a sewer service permit at the District office. At that time it
