Recommended Action
Receive the final report on Summer Reading Adventure 2025.
Executive Summary
Librarian Jennifer Benson will provide an overview of the Summer Reading Adventure 2025,
including its theme, structure and goals, as well as key statistics, program highlights and special
events.
The library’s Summer Reading Adventure, “Level Up at the Library”, started on June 1 and ended
on Aug. 10.
Registration:

Programs:
64 programs | 1,928 attendees
Including all-ages special events, cultural arts presentations, chess meet-ups, LEGO building,
and films such as “Wild Robot” and “King of Kong”.
Workshops and performances:
Featuring live animals, musicians, puppet shows, magicians, author talks, and skill-building
workshops in art and writing.

Noteworthy Items:
o Carlsbad City Library was recognized by Beanstack as the #1 public library system in
the U.S. for summer reading participation, minutes read and community engagement
o Patrons logged over 1.9 million minutes of reading, a major increase from last year’s
1.5 million
o Volunteers (8 adults and 72 teens) provided a total of 1,522 hours supporting book
giveaways and program activities
o Outreach efforts connected with over 2,000 community members at 17 local events,
extending Summer Reading Adventure beyond library walls

Environmental Evaluation
The proposed action is not a “project” as defined by CEQA Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines
Section 15378(b)(5) and does not require environment review under CEQA Guidelines Section
15060(c)(3) and 15061(b)(3), because the proposed action to report on the library’s Summer
Reading Adventure program is an organizational or administrative government activity that does
not involve any commitment to any specific project which may result in a potentially significant
physical impact on the environment. Any subsequent action or direction stemming from the
proposed action may require preparation of an environmental document in accordance with
CEQA or CEQA Guidelines.
