HomeMy WebLinkAboutCT 2017-0005; GRAND WEST; FINAL SOILS REPORT; 2024-11-01Report of Testing & Observations -Geo Final Report November 1, 2024 City of Carlsbad 1625 Faraday Avenue Carlsbad, CA 92008 Attn: City Building Department Subject: Report of Testing and Observations -Geo Final 972 & 988 Grand Avenue Carlsbad, CA 92008 Permit# GR2018-0036 City Building Official: Jlmichal@aol.com (760)-473-5052 In accordance with the request and authorization of the owner, representatives of Ghostrider Inspection, Inc. have performed observation and testing services at the subject site during the period of July 22, 2022 to October 3, 2024 Please be advised that on 10/3/2024 Ghostrider Inspection, Inc. completed testing and observations of the building pads for Building A & Building B, driveway area, retaining walls, electrical/water/sewer trench backfill and street improvements on project that has the street address of 972 & 988 Grand Avenue, Carlsbad, CA. Field Observation & Testing Summary: • Earthwork construction observed and tested was performed by Top Shelf Contractors, Inc. • Existing vegetation and improvements were removed within the proposed limits of the subject building pads. • Contractor over-excavated proposed Building A and Building B building pads to a depth of 2' -6". All bottoms of excavations were checked for compaction with a½" dia. soil probe and were found to be firm and unyielding. Native and imported soils were utilized to backfill and were placed in approximately 61 ' to 8" uniform lifts under the observation and testing of a representative of Ghostrider Inspection, Inc., who was onsite on a full-time basis. (Density Results Table 1/Appendix A). • Contractor utilized native and imported soils to backfill for retaining walls, electrical/water/sewer trench backfill and street improvements. Soils were placed in approximately 6" to 8" uniform lifts under the observation and testing of a representative of Ghostrider Inspection, Inc., who was onsite on a full-time basis. (Density Results Table 1/Appendix A) • Field density tests were taken at periodic intervals and random locations to check the compaction efforts by the contractor. Field density testing was performed in accordance with the sand cone and nuclear gauge methods. Based on our observations, the test results presented herein (Table 1/Appendix A) should be considered representative of the level of compaction achieved during overall preparation of the building pads. Approximate field density test locations are shown in (Figure 1/Appendix B). • Our field density and laboratory test results indicate that the fill materials were compacted to at least 90% relative compaction for Building A and Building B building pads (Based on ASTM D1557). Location and results of compaction tests are present in Figure 1/Appendix B & Table 1/Appendix A respectively. Conclusion: Jlmichal@aol.com (760)-473-5052 It is our opinion that the excavation, backfill and compaction of soils for the proposed Building A & Building B building pads, driveway area, retaining walls, electrical/water/sewer trench backfill and street improvements mentioned herein has been completed in substantial conformance with the approved plans, the City of Carlsbad specifications and the permit.
