We provided our services from February 16, 2023 through August 6, 2024. The scope of our services included: Performing in-place density tests on an “on-call” basis during utility trench backfill operations including joint trench, storm drain, sewer lateral, sewer main, water lateral and water main. Performing in-place density testing of subgrade soil for the curb/gutter and roadways and during the placement of aggregate base and asphalt concrete. Providing geotechnical consultation services during improvement operations. Performing laboratory tests to aid in evaluating the compaction characteristics of soil conditions encountered and/or used for fill, including base materials and asphalt concrete. Preparing this final report of improvements. To aid in preparing this report, we reviewed the referenced report and plans associated with the project improvements. 1.Final Report of Testing and Observation Services Performed During Site Grading, Highland 5, Lots 1 through 5, 2908 – 2924 Highland Drive, Carlsbad, California, prepared by Geocon Incorporated, dated November 7, 2023 (Project No. G2861-11-03). 2.Grading Plans for: Highland Drive, 5 Lot Single Family Residence (2908 – 2924 Highland Drive), prepared by Pasco, Laret, Suiter & Associates, dated March 14, 2024 (PD2022-0043), (GR2021-0044). Highland 5 Final Report of T&O During Site Improvements Project No. G2861-11-03 - 2 - August 13, 2024 During the construction of site improvements, we observed compaction procedures and performed in-place density tests to evaluate the dry density and moisture content of the fill materials. We performed in-place density tests using a nuclear gauge in accordance with ASTM D 6938. Table I presents the results of the in-place density tests. We performed laboratory tests on soil and aggregate base samples in accordance with ASTM D 1557 (Maximum Dry Density and Optimum Moisture Content). We performed laboratory tests on asphalt concrete samples in accordance with ASTM D 2726 (Hveem Density), D 2041 (Theoretical Maximum Density), D 1560 (Stability), D 6307 (Asphalt Content), and C 136 (Sieve Analysis). Tables II through IV present the results of the laboratory testing. In general, the results of the in-place density tests indicate utility trench backfill possess a dry density of at least 90 percent of the laboratory maximum dry density near to slightly above optimum moisture content at the locations tested. In addition, in-place density tests taken for the curb/gutter subgrade, roadway subgrade and base materials in vehicular areas possess a dry density of at least 95 percent of the laboratory maximum dry density to near to slightly above optimum moisture content. In-place density test results indicate that the asphalt concrete in the roadways possesses a density at least 95 percent of the laboratory maximum Hveem density. Based on observations and test results, we opine the construction of site improvements, which is the subject of this report, has been performed in substantial conformance with the recommendations of the referenced project geotechnical report. Additional improvement installation associated with the Highland 5 project should be performed in conjunction with our observation and testing services. This office should be notified at least 48 hours prior to commencing additional grading or backfill operations. Adequate drainage provisions are imperative. Under no circumstances should water be allowed to pond adjacent to improvements. Finish grades should be established so that drainage water is directed away from pavements, curb/gutters and sidewalks to controlled drainage devices. Irrigation of landscape areas adjacent to pavements should be monitored to provide just enough water to support plant life.
