Figure A) are automatic sprinklers of the frangible bulb type. They are intended for use in automatic sprinkler systems designed in accord- ance with standard installation rules (e.g., NFPA 13) for the protection of ordinary hazards up to a maximum coverage area of 256 tt2 (23,8 m2) for the 11.2 K-factor and 400 ft2 (37,2 m2) for the 14.0 K-factor, as com- pared to the maximum coverage area of 130 ft2 (12, 1 m2) for standard cover- age sprinklers. The F895 ECOH Sprinklers have been fire tested to compare their perform- ance to that of standard spray sprin- klers installed at standard spacings (i.e. 15 feet maximum on center spac- ing and 130 sq. ft. maximum coverage area for ordinary hazard). These tests Printed in U.S.A. 2-00 have shown that the protection pro- vided by the F895 ECOH Sprinklers is equal to or more effective than stand- ard spray sprinklers. The recessed version of the F895 ECOH Sprinkler is obtained by com- bining the pendent sprinkler with the Model F700 Recessed Escutcheon (Ref. Figures A and B). The F700 Re- cessed Escutcheon provides 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) of recessed adjustment or up to 3/4 inch (19, 1 mm) of adjustment from the flush pendent position. The F700 is a separable two-piece design which allows installation of the sprin- klers and pressure testing of the fire protection system, prior to ceiling con- struction and/or application of a finish coat to the ceiling. They also permit refinishing of a ceiling surface without having to first shut down the fire pro- tection system and remove sprinklers. The adjustment provided by the F700 substantially reduces the accuracy to which the fixed pipe drops to the sprin- klers must be cut. Also, the Closure has a 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) wide flange which provides ample clearance for covering the mounting hole. APPROVALS AND STANDARDS Laboratory listings and approvals for the 11.2 and 14.0 K-factor, Model F895 Extended ' Coverage Ordinary Hazard (ECOH), Pendent, Recessed Pendent, and Upright Sprinklers are given in Table A. TECHNICAL DATA The 11.2 and 14.0 K-factor, Model F895 Extended Coverage Ordinary Hazard (ECOH) Pendent, Recessed Pendent, and Upright Sprinklers are rated for use at a maximum service pressure of 175 psi (12, 1 bar) and they are available in the temperature rat- ings and finishes indicated in Table A. Recessed versions of the F895 ECOH Sprinklers are obtained by utilizing the Model F895 Pendent Sprinkler in com- bination with the Model F700 Re- cessed Escutcheon. The Model F700 Escutcheons are available either with a chrome plated finish or a coated fin- ish in any color. The flow "Q" in GPM (LPM) is deter- mined by the formula: where the nominal sprinkler discharge coefficient "K" equals either 11.2 (161.3) or 14.0 (201.6); and "p" = pressure in psi (bar). The Frame of the Model F895 Sprin- kler, (Ref. Figure A), is brass per ASTM B584 (C83600 or C84400). The Button (bulb retainer) is phosphor bronze per ASTM B103 (C54400) or brass (C36000). The Gasketed Spring Plate consists of a Beryllium Nickel (N03360) disc spring that is sealed on both its inside and outside faces with a Teflont gasket. The Compression Screw is bronze per ASTM B 140 (C31400) and the Deflector is brass per ASTM B36 (C22000, C24000, or C24000). The Pintle is stainless steel (S42000). The Model F895 Sprinklers utilize a 3 mm diameter frangible bulb. Table A indicates the bulb liquid color as a function of temperature rating. The F700 Recessed Escutcheon pro- vided for use with the F895 ECOH Sprinklers (Ref. Figure B) has a Clo- sure and Mounting Plate fabricated from low carbon steel. The Mounting Plate prongs, which are compressed back into the Mounting Plate as the Closure is pushed over it, maintain a tight friction fit between the two pieces. The Mounting Plate and Closure can also swivel relative to each other and compensate for non-perpendicularity between the F895 ECOH Sprinkler and the ceiling. -2- DESIGN CRITERIA The Model F895 ECOH Sprinklers must only be installed in accordance with the applicable UL and C-UL List- ing or FM Approval requirements, as indicated below. Only the Model F700 Recessed Escutcheon is to be used for recessed installation: UL and C-UL Listing Requirements 1. Figure A) are automatic sprinklers of the frangi- ble bulb type. They are "standard re- sponse -standard orifice spray sprink- lers" intended for use in fire sprinkler systems designed in accordance with the standard installation rules recog- nized by the applicable Listing or Ap- proval agency (e.g., UL Listing is based on NFPA 13 requirements). The Pendent, Recessed Pendent, and Up- right Sprinklers all produce a hemi- spherical water distribution pattern below the deflector. The recessed versions of the Model A Sprinkler are obtained by utilizing the Model A Pendent Sprinkler in combi- nation with the Model F700 Recessed Escutcheon (Ref. Figures A and C). The F700 Recessed Escutcheon pro- vides 1/2 inch (12,7mm) of recessed adjustment or up to 3/4 inch (19, 1 mm) of adjustment from the flush pendent position. The F700 has a separable two-piece Printed in U.S.A. 4-94 design which allows installation of the sprinklers and pressure testing of the fire protection system, prior to ceiling construction and/or application of a fin- ish coat to the ceiling. They also permit refinishing of a ceiling surface without having to first shut down the fire pro- tection system and remove the sprink- lers. The adjustment provided by the F700 substantially reduces the accuracy to which the length of fixed pipe drops to the sprinklers must be cut. Also, the Closure·has a 1/2 inch (12,7mm) wide flange which provides ample clear- ance for covering 1he mounting hole.
