of construction, a building permit may also be required. Please note ground-mounted/monument
signs within the coastal zone also require a minor Coastal Development Permit. Requirements for
signs may be subject to an existing sign program on file with the city.

SIGN PLAN CHECK
Remarks:
1. Per the Carlsbad Company Stores sign plan, the sign area shall be
measured by enclosing the extreme perimeter of all lettering, and
designs within six or less straight lines, including any intervening or
enclosed open spaces. Please revise the sign area calculation to
conform to the calculation process.
2. The sign face area maximum is 1.5 x tenant linear frontage. Please
provide verification that the sign areas meet this requirement.
3. Two pages are attached from the sign plan below in reference to the
two comments above.

4. Colors
All sign colors are subject to review and approval by the Landlord as part of
the tenant sign submittal. ,~
5. Typestyles
The use oflogos and distinctive typestyles is encouraged for all tenant signs.
Tenants may adapt established typestyles, logos and/or images that are in
use on similar buildings operated by them in California, provided that said
images are architecturally compatible and approved by the Landlord. Type
may be arranged in one or two lines of copy and may consist of upper and/
or lower case letters.
6. Sign Area
Sign area shall be measured by enclosing the extreme perimeter of all
lettering, and designs within six or less straight lines, including any inter-
vening or enclosed open spaces.
Notwithstanding the maximum square footage specified for sign area,
adequate amounts of visual open space shall be provided around wall signs
and graphic elements so that signs appear balanced and in scale in relation
to the architectural backgrounds on which they are placed.
The total aggregate signage allowance for tenant signage at the center will be
calculated at 1.5 x the combined total tenant linear frontage.
Project identification, optional tenant identification, informational signage
and internally-facing signs will not be counted in the aggregate signage
allowance for the center, but will be governed by the general provisions and
criteria contained in this Sign Plan.

B. Primary Tenant Identification Signs
SIGN TYPE: T-1 Tenant Identification Wall Sign
Materials: Signs may use any acceptable treatment as provided for in
the Sign Plan, except as restricted below.
Copy: Tenant identification, logo and/or logotype
Sign Face Area: 1.5 x tenant linear frontage. Maximum width not to exceed
80% of architectural background (the continuous,
uninterrupted area on a single plane of the building
facade)of tenant lease space on which the sign is placed.
Specific locations and surrounding architectural treatments
can dictate maximum sign height and length, which may be
less than the maximum defined herein.
Typeface: Custom with Landlord approval.
Colors: Custom with Landlord approval.

Materials: Signs may use any acceptable treatment as provided for in
the Sign Plan, except as restricted below.
Copy: Tenant identification, logo and/or logotype
Sign Face Area: 6 sq . ft. max., double-faced. Shape may vary from tenant to
tenant but the support bracket will be uniform.
Typeface: Custom with Landlord approval.
Colors: Custom with Landlord approval.
Lighting: Externally-illuminated with fixtures which are an integral
part of mounting bracket.
Location: Near entrance doors.
