3. Use only the 135°F (57°C) temperature rated Model CCP
cover plate assembly with the Model F1/RES 18 Pendent
sprinkler. Refer to Buftetin 141 and this caution sheet for tech-
nical information.
4. Use the appropriate temperature· rated Model CCP cover
plate assembly with either the Model F 1 FR or F 1 FR OREC
Pendent sprinkler in accordance with Bulletin 143 or 151 and
Caution Sheet CA-70.
5. Install sprinklers after ceiling Is in place.
6. Never apply paint and/or other coating spnnkler or concealed
sprinkler cover plate.
7. Do not install concealed sprinkler in ceilings, which have posi-
tive pressure in the space above. and do not cover the cup
vent holes. An open plenum space must be above the sprin-
kler cup.
8. Use a Model C 1 Wrench (Fig. 1) to install sprinklers. Face of
~nk!er fitting to ceiling dimension is shown on Fig. 3 or Fig. 4.
Ceiling hole diameter Is 2¼" {67mm).
9. Final adjustment of each cover can be made by hand tuming
the cover plate in the clockwise direction until it Is tight against
the ceiling.
10. Never install the Model F1/RES CCP Concealed Residential
Sprinkler in areas where ceiling temperatures exceed 100 °F
{38°C).
11. When residential sprinklers are installed in plastic piping sys-
tems containing glycerin, special care is required to achieve a
proper thread seal.

Description
The Model F1/RES CCP Concealed Residential Sprinkler is a UL
listed residential sprinkler intended to be installed in the wet pipe
sprinkler_ systems ot one and tow family dwellings and mobile
homes. in resIdentIal occupancies up to tour stones in height or
the residential portions of any occupancy per NFPA 130, 13R or
13.
The Deflector of the Model F1/RES 18 is marked "Pend.", "Res.
Sprkr". "F1/RES 18," "155 °P' and "K=3.9." The frame wrench
boss is marked "RASCO" and "F1 3.9.~
The riush-on cover plate assembly is labeled "RASCO," 135 °F
(57 °C) Mode! CCP cover plate --for use with Reliable Model
f:1/RES 18. 3.9 K orifice, 155 °F (68°C) sprinkler only."
Installation
Apply a Teflon'"1-based thread sealant to the sprinkler threads only.
The Model RC 1 Wrench is then used to engage the sprinklr,;r
wrenching surfaces to install the sprinkler in 1he fitting. A 2Ya"
(67mm) diameter hole cut into the ceiling allows the sprinkler to be
properly covered by the push on cover plate. Push the over plate
assembly by hand into the cup. Final adjustment, if required. is
made turning the cover plate clockwise until the cover late flange

Use care to avoid damaging the sprinkler before. during and after
installation. Replace all sprinklers, which have any sign of dam-
age.
Tne temQ_erature rating of residential sprinklers is stamped on d~
fleeter. The sprinkler or1!1ce size 1s determined by the "K Factor
which 1s marked on the spnnkler.

Product Description
All Model F1 Residential Sprinklers are fast response
residential glass bulb automatic sprinklers. Residential
sprinklers differ from standard sprinklers primarily in their
response time and water distribution patterns.
Model F1 Residential Sprinklers utilize a 3.0mm frangi-
ble glass bulb_ These sprinklers have demonstrated re-
sponse times in laboratory tests which are five to ten
times faster than standard sprinklers of the same tem-
perature rating. •
The Models F1 Pendent and Recessed Pendent Resi-
dential Sprinklers discharge water in a hemispherical
pattern below the sprinkler deflector Models F1 Horizon-
tal Sidewall and Recessed Horizontal Sidewall Resider.-
tial Sprinklers discharge water in a quarter spherical
pattern which distributes approximately 10% ot the water
on the backwall and 90% on the three remaining walls
and floor. These residential distribution patterns are
higher and generally contain a finer droplet size than
standard sprinkler patterns.
The combination of speed of operation and high dis-
charge pattern has demonstrated. in fire testing. an abil-
ity tor controlling residential fires thereby providing
significant evacuation time for occupants.
The Model F 1 Residential Sprinklers may be installed in
the resrdential portions of any occupancy in accordance
with NFPA 13. 130 or 13R.

Application and Installation
Model.F1 Residential Sprinklers must be installed
in accordance with NFPA 13,130 or 13R. These
sprinklers are approved solely for use with indoor wet
pipe sprinkler systems.
Model ·F1 Recessed Residential Sprinklers are to
be installed only as shown. The Model F1 or Model
F2 Escutcheon illustrated is the only recessed
escutcheon to be used with the Model F1 Pendent or
Horizontal Sidewall Residential Sprinklers. The use of
any other recessed escutcheon will void all
approvals on these sprinklers and negate all
warranties. When installing Model F1 Residential
Sprinklers use the Model D Sprinkler Wrench and
when installing Model F1 Recessed Residential
Sprinklers use the Model GFR 1 Sprinkler Wrench.
Any other type of wrench may cause damage to
these sprinklers.
MoQels F 1 /RES,. F 1 /RES 2, F 1 /RES 16, F 1 /RES 18 and
F1/RES 20 Pendent Residential Sprinklers shall be
positioned such that the deflectors are within 1 to 4
inches from the ceiling.

Maintenance
Model F1. Residential Sprinklers sh"ould be
inspected quarterly, and the sprinkler system
maintained in accordance with NFPA 25, 13, 130,
and 13R. Do not clean sprinkler with soap and water,
ammonia or any other cleaning fluids. Remove dust
by using a soft brush or gentle vacuuming. Remove
any sprinkler which has been painted (Other than
factory applied) or damaged in any way. A stock of
spare sprinklers should be maintained to allow quick
replacement of damaged or operated sprinklers.
