Description
Pyrotronics' series of Synchronous Electmnic Horn/ Horn
Strobes provide synchronous strobes with temporal tone
signals on one pair of wires. Two notification output
circuits are required: one non-silenceable -for strobes and
one for silenceable signals.
The new U-MHST series horn operates on a current of
23ma at 24Vdc, The audio portion of the signal provides a
temporal 95dB tone output. The U-MHST-1 G mounts to a
single gang, the U-MHST horn or U-MHST horn/strobe are
either 1, 2 gang or 4" square mounting.
Pyrotronics' notification devices are designed with the
installer in mind. The U-MHST series devices are con-

structed with all of the electronics in the housing and not
in the box. This design helps eliminate possible ground
faults from jamming wires and devices in the box. Units
are also available in two different colors, red or white.
The U-MHST/Strobe construction consists of a Xenon
flashtube with solid state circuitry for maximum reliability
and efficiency. Full range of candella series strobes have a
rounded dome shape made of clear Lexan·. "FIRE" letters
are visible on the front mounting plate. The overall lens is
2.0" x 2 7/8" with a height of 1 3/8'.'
U-MHST series synchronous strobes must be used with
either SCM-F or DSC (Dual Sync Control) modules.
To order a device in "white" use a "-W" at the end of the
model number (i.e., U-MHST-W)

Photoelectric Smoke Detector
ENGINEER AND ARCHITECT SPECIFICATIONS
• Advanced Field Cleanable
Chamber Design
• Self Diagnostic
• Multi-Color LED for Normal,
Trouble or Alarm Indication
• Low-Profile Design
• EasyTwist-ln Base Design
• Made in USA at ISO 9001

Introduction
The Pyrotronics PE-11 Series Photoelectric Smoke
Detector, with its microprocessor controlled self-diagnos-
tic circuitry, eliminates cumbersome sensitivity test
equipment. It is the most advanced detector in its class.
This detector employs a simple twist-in base for ease of
maintenance and has a field cleanable/replaceable
labyrinth and bug screen. This detector is highly immune
to false alarm caused by deceptive phenomena such as
dust or RF. The PE-11 has a full range of accessories
available, including remote alarm indicator, remote
sensitivity and alarm indicator, relay and audible base
adapters, and a base adapter that allows use in older
Pyrotronics DB-3S Series bases.
Description
The PE-11 is a two-wire, plug-in type photoelectric smoke
detector which is compatible with Pyrotronics PXL, SXL,
and System 3 conventional systems and on conventional
loops of MXL Series, IXL and XL3 analog-addressable
systems.
Siemens BuildingTechnologies, Inc.
PE-11
(Shown with DB-11 Base)
• ......... ,,.~ .,,,,...,
,<ltK .,_..,_' ~-{4._ ;ii,_
• -
PE-11T
The PE-11 contains an infra-red light emitting diode (LED)
and a light sensing photodiode arranged so that under
normal conditions, light from the LED does not reach the
photodiode. When smoke enters the photo chamber,
light emitted from the IA LED is scattered by the smoke
particles and is received by the photodiode. The electrical
signal produced by the photodiode is compared to a
factory set alarm threshold, and if sufficient to indicate an
alarm, latches the detector alarm. The PE-11 is reset at
the control panel.
The PE-11 has self-testing circuitry which tests the •
detector for defective operation or contamination every 7-
8 seconds. If a problem is detected, the multi-color LED
indicator will flash amber until the problem is corrected.
The detector flashes green in normal operation. In the
alarm mode, the detector will flash red every 2-3 sec-
onds, and latch into alarm, alerting the control panel to
the alarm condition. This microprocessor-controlled self-
diagnostic system eliminates the need for external test
meters or other equipment for detector testing and also
alerts users to trouble conditions prior to periodic system
checks.

When a unit is powered at the 120VAC or 220/240VAC Input,
any combination of accessories may be used such that the given
accessory loads are; A78-2354-0S
60mA or less in the standby slate,
110mA or less In the alarm state.
Figure 11. Testing detector alarm:

(6.2.2.2] RTS451/RTS451KEY Remote Test Station
The RTS45!/RTS4S!KEY Remote Test Station facilitates
test of the alarm capability of the duct smoke detector
as indicated in the RTS45!/RTS451KEY manual. The
DHlO0ACDC duct smoke detector can be reset by the
RTS45!/RTS4SIKEY. If a system control panel is used,
the panel itself may also require testing.
To install the RTS45!/RTS4S!KEY, connect the device as
shown in Figure 9; wire runs must be limited to 25 ohms or
less per interconnecting wire.
[6.2.3] Sensitivity Tests
(6.2.3.1] MOD400 or MOD400R Test
After verification of alarm capability, use the MOD400R test
module with a voltmeter to check detector sensitivity as in-
dicated in the test module's manual. The housing cover
must be removed to perform this test.
D100-68·00 7
If test module readings indicate that the detector head is
outside of the acceptable range that is printed on the label
of the detector, the detector chamber requires cleaning per
Section [7] of this manual.
(7) Detector Cleaning Procedures
Notify the proper authorities that the smoke detector sys-
tem is undergoing maintenance, and that the system will
temporarily be out of service. Disable the zone or system
undergoing maintenance to prevent unwanted alarms and
possible dispatch of the fire department.
(7 .1] Air FIHers
I. Turn off power to the system.
2. Remove and inspect sampling tube filters.
3. If filters are heavily coated with dirt, replace them with
new filters. If they are not heavily coated, use a vacuum
cleaner or compressed air nozzle to remove dust, then
reinstall the filters.
(7 .2) Photo Detector Boards
I. Remove the screen by gently grasping on each side and
pulling straight off.
2. Lift the photo chamber in the same fashion. Vacuum the
screen and cover. Use clean, compressed air to loosen
and blow out any remaining debris. Replacement
screens (S0S-39-01) are available.
3. Vacuum photo chamber, then use clean compressed air
to blow area clean.
4. Replace the chamber by pressing it onto the base.
Press the screen into place. It should fit tightly on the
chamber.
[7 .3] Ion Detector Boards
I. Brush or vacuum inside area of cover. Chamber may
then be blown out using clean, compressed air.
156-1147-07
•
2. Vacuum sensing chamber before using clean, com-
pressed air to loosen and blow out any remaining debris.
[8.0) Board Replacement
[8.11 Detector Board Replacement
1. Remove the two detector board mounting screws.
2. Pull gently on the board to remove it.
3. To replace the board, align the board mounting fea-
tures, holes, and the interconnect terminals. Push the
board into place.
4. Secure board with the two mounting screws.
[8.21 Power Board replacement
1. Disconnect wiring from the terminal block.
2. Remove the two power board mounting screws.
3. Pull gently on the board to remove it.
4. To replace the board, align the board mounting fea-
tures, holes, and the interconnect terminals. Push the
board into place.
5. Secure board with the two mounting screws.
6. Re-connect wiring to terminal block.
