American Tube Dyna-Thread-40 has superior hydraulics
when compared to Schedule-40. It has hydraulic
characteristics comparable to some lightwall threadable
products. Even though Dyna-Thread-40 has a thicker
wall than lightwall threadables, its full size standard OD
gives it a large inside diameter.

Schedule-40 piping is specified.

The vertical adjustment provided by
the Recessed Escutcheons substan-
tially reduces the accuracy to which
the length of fixed pipe drops to the
sprinklers must be cut. Also, the Clo-
sure has a 1/2 Inch (12,7mm) wide
flange which provides ample clear-
ance for covering the mounting hole.

LABORATORY LISTINGS AND APPROVALS
Model A Pendent Sprinkler in combi-
nalion with either the Model F700 or
F706 Recessed Escutcheon. The Re•
cessed Esculcheons are available
with a chrome plated finish or a coated
finish in any color.
The nominal discharge curve plotted in
Figure 8 represents the flow "O" in
GPM (LPM) as delermlned by the fol•
towing formula:
where the nominal discharge coefli·
cient "K" equals 5.6 (80,7); and, "p"
equals the reeiduat flowing pressure in
psi (bar), Listing standards permit the
actual value of 'K" to vary from 5.3 to
5.8 (76,4 to 83,6); however, for hydrau-
lic calculations, a K-factor of 5.6 (80,7)
is to be applied.
The Frame of the Model A Sprinkler
(Ref. Figure A), is bronze per ASTM
8176 (C87800) or, a proprietary alloy
designated OM. The Button (bulb re,
tainer) is phospher bronze per ASTM
8103 (C51000 or C52100). The Gas-
kated Spring Plate consists of a Beryl-
lum Nickel (N03360) disc spring that is
sealed on both Its Inside and outstde
faces with a Teflont gasket. The Com•
pre11ion Screw Is bronze per ASTM
8140 (C31400) and the Deflector is
braas per ASTM 8162 (C11000). The
Model A Sprinklers utilize a 3mm diam-
eter frangible bulb. Table A indicates
the bulb liquid color as a function of
temperature rating,
The F700 and F706 Recessed Es-
cutcheons provided for use with the
Model A Pendent Sprinkler (Ref. Fig·
ure C) have a Closure and Mounting
Plate fabricated from low carbon steel.
The Mounting Plate prongs, which are
compressed back into the Mounting
Plate as the Closure la pushed over it,
maintain a tight friction flt between the
two pieces. The Mounting Plate and
Closure can also swivel relative to
each olher and compensate for minor
non-perpendicularity between the
Model A Sprinkler and the ceiling,

3. Hand tighten the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting.
4. Refer to Figure D and select the
appropriate Sprinkler Wrench for
tightening the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting.
The F850 Sprinkler Wrench must be
used for installing polyester coated
sprinklers, in order to prevent dam-age to the sprinkler finish.
NOTES
A leak tight 112 inch NPT sprmk-
ler joint should be obcmned with a
torque of7 to 14 ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0
Nm). A maximum of 21 ft. lbs.
(28,5 Nm) of torque is to be used to
install the sprinklers. Higher lev-
els of torque may distort the
sprinkler inlet with consequent
leakage or impairment of the
sprinkler.
Do not attempt to make-up for in-
sufficient adjustment in the es-
cutcheon plate by under• or 01.1er-
tightening the sprinkler. Readjust
the position of the sprinkler fitting
to suit.
5. In recessed pendent sprinkler mslal•
lations, after the ceiling has been
installed or the finis!\ coal has been
applied, slide on the F7oo· or F705
Closure over the Model· A Sprinkler
and push the Closure over the
Mounting Plate until its flange. comes
in contact with the ceiling.

Automatic sprinklers must never be
shipped or stored where their temper-
atures will exceed 1 00'F/38'C and
they must never be painted, plated,
coated or otherwise altered after leav-
• ing the factory. Modified sprinklers
