Page 2 Review Comments Life Technologies Mezzanine, 5781 Van Allen Way, Carlsbad, CA 1. No call out for deflector position relative to deck. Construction is obstructed per note on sheet 1, deflector must be within 1" - 6" below bottom of framing, but not more than 22" down from deck, per NFPA-13, 8.6.4.2.1(1). Field verify. 2. Seismic bracing and protection of systems is to conform to the 2007 edition ofNFPA- 13, per the requirements of the 2007 CBC, adopted 01/01/08. Field verify that lateral restraint is provided on branch lines, per table 9.3.5.6.4 of the 2007 edition of NFPA- 13. Acceptable lateral restraint methods are noted in NFPA- 13. Note that a surge clip on a hanger assembly mounted vertically provides no restraint in the lateral axis. Zone of influence calculations will result in slightly different Fpw values, however none will exceed the capacity of the zone of influence, or exceed the maximum horizontal force factor, and therefore no revisions are required. 3. Field verify that a pressure relief valve, as required for gridded systems in NFPA-13, 2002, section 7.1.2.1 is present. None was shown on the riser or plan, however this building has an existing grid system, so this valve should already be present. 4. Grid calculations were not peaked as is required by NFPA- 13,2002, section 14.4.4.2.2, however an electronic copy of the peaked calculations was forwarded to us, and we have retained that set for our records. No revision required. While the sprinkler provides an aesthetically pleasing appearance, it can be installed wherever standard spray sprinklers are specified. This sprinkler series is available in various styles, orifices, temperature ratings and finishes to meet varying design requirements. CONVENTIONAL The heart of Globe's GL Series sprinkler proven actuating assembly is a hermetically sealed frangible glass ampule that contains a precisely measured amount of fluid. When heat is absorbed, the liquid within the bulb expands increasing the internal pressure At the prescribed temperature the internal pressure within the ampule exceeds the strength of the glass causing the glass to shatter. This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approved pattern depending upon the deflector style used. . BULLETIN GL5661 Dyna-Flow® High Strength Steel Pipe The original high-strength lightwall sprinkler pipe with hydraulics superior to Schedule-10. Dyna-Flow pipe is the "original" high- strength lightwall sprinkler pipe. Dyna- Flow has outstanding hydraulic capabilities and is recognized as the most popular alternative to Schedule- 10 pipe. Lightweight, easy to cut and easy to handle for installation. Dyna-Flow is a valuable addition to any fire protection system. With an inside diameter of up to 11% larger than Schedule-40 and up to 7% larger than Schedule- 10, Dyna-Flow pipe hydraulics are exceptional. Dyna-Thread sprinkler pipe represents an engineering advancement for the sprinkler pipe industry. It combines the safety and longevity of traditional Sch-40 pipe with quality and superior hydraulic advantages. Dyna-Thread's inside diameter is up to 3.6% larger than Sch-40 giving it superior hydraulics. And, when used in combination with Dyna-Flow pipe, down sizing often occurs. Dyna-Thread is fully listed and approved by UL, ULC, and FM for fire sprinkler applications. The life expectancy of Dyna-Thread and Sch-40 are equal based on the calculated wall thicknesses per UL. The consistent quality of steel used to make Dyna-Thread facilitates smooth threading and lower maintenance costs. The exterior of Dyna-Thread is protected by a clean, durable mill coating for extended shelf life and easy paint application. Listed Approved Listed With its increased strength and lighter weight, Dyna-Thread reduces installation fatigue and is ideal for retro-fit applications. Corrosion Resistance Ratio (CRR) is a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) term for the estimated life expectancy of a pipe joint. This is based on the calculated wall thickness at the base of the first exposed thread, assumed to be the weakest point of the pipe length. Dyna- Thread and Sch-40 have the same calculated wall thicknesses at this point and are both assigned the same CRR of 1.00. The internal surface of all black Allied Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe products up to 4.5000" in diameter is coated with our new Antibacterial Formula, "ABF". In scientific laboratory test, ABS proved to have superior resistance to microbial colonization of pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly preventing the onset of Microbiologically Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the First Sprinkler System is first installed. More wall thickness at the thread (CRR= 1.00) gives Dyna-Thread better life expectancy than lightwall threadable pipe joints. Unlike lightwall threadable pipe, Dyna-Thread has no thread gauge warning. Dyna-Thread is approved for standard hanger spacing (15 ft. O.C.), can be used as earthquake sway bracing, and is safe to use as drops. Dyna-Thread is safer to weld on. Dyna-Thread is more widely accepted than lightwall threadable where Sch-40 is specified. SpecificationsIW Approvals l Super 40/Dyna-Thread pipe is manufactured to meet: ASTM A-135, Grade A and is in compliance with NFPA- 13. All sizes of Super 40/Dyna- Thread are rated at 300 psi working pressure. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is UL and ULC Listed for wet, dry deluge and pre-action sprinkler systems and FM Approved for use in wet systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread can be "hot-dip" galvanized to meet FM requirement for dry systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is approved for all threaded couplings and welded outlets and is suitable for all roll-grooved, and plain-end fittings. (See listing information). NPS Nominal I.D. Wt. WI. Contact Victaulic for performance on other pipe. WARNING: FOR ONE TIME FIELD TEST ONLY, the Maximum Joint Working Pressure may be increased to 1½ limes the figures shown. t Allowable Pipe End Separation and Deflection figures show the maximum nominal range of movement available at each joint for standard roll grooved pipe. Figures for standard cut grooved pipe may be doubled. These figures are maximums: for design and installation purposes these figures should be reduced by: 50% for 3/4 - 31h' (26,7 - 101,6 mm): 25% for 4 (114,3 mm) and larger. © Number of bolts required equals number of housing segments. Metric thread size bolts are available (color coded gold) for all coupling sizes upon request. Contact Victaulic for details. WARNING: Piping systems must always be depressurized and drained before attempting disassembly and removal of any Victaulic piping products. This product shall be manufactured by Victaulic Company. The hole is cut oversize to receive a holefinder" locating collar which secures the outlet in position permanently. A pressure responsive gasket seals on the pipe O.D. Cross-type connections can be achieved by utilizing two upper housings of the same style and size, with the same or differing branch size connections. NOTE: Style 920 and Style 920N housings cannot be mated to each other to achieve a cross connection. Style 920 and Style 920N Mechanical-T outlets are available with grooved or female threaded outlet. Specify choice on order. Units are supplied painted with plated bolts. Galvanized hous- ings are available, supplied with plated bolts. All sizes of Style 920 and 920N are rated at 500 psi/3450kPa working pressure on Schedule 10 and 40 carbon steel pipe. They may also be used on high density polyethylene or poly- butylene (HDPE) pipe. Pressure ratings on HDPE are dependent on the pipe rating. Contact Victaulic for ratings on other pipe. Style 920 and 920N are not recommended for use on PVC plastic pipe. Standard piping practices dictate that the Mechanical-T Styles 920 and 920N must be installed so that the main and branch connections are a true 900 angle when permanently attached to the pipeline surface. Additionally, the Vic-Tap Il® hole cutting tool, which allows for hole cutting capabilities on pressurized systems, utilizes the Style 920 Mechanical-T in conjunction with the Series 726 Vic-Ball Valve to create the Style 931 Vic-Tap II Mechanical-T unit. FireLock full-flow elbows and tees are a CAD-developed, hydrodynamic design that has a shorter center-to-end dimension than standard fittings. A noticeable bulge allows the water to make a smoother turn to maintain similar flow characteristics as standard full flow fittings. FireLock fittings are designed for use exclusively with Style 005 and Style 009 FireLock couplings. Use of other couplings or flange adapters may result in bolt pad interference. Victaulic FireLock fittings pressure ratings conform to the ratings of Victaulic FireLock Style 005 couplings. MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS Fitting: Ductile iron conforming to ASTM A-536, grade 65-45-12.
