Each section violated is considered a separate offense with an independent penalty, which may be assessed each day such violation exists. Administrative penalties will not exceed: General violations may be fined $100 for the first offense, $200 for a second, and $500 for each additional violation, Building and safety violations may be fined $130 for the first offense, $700 for a second and $1300 for each additional violation or up to $2,500 for certain commercial property violations. Short-term rental violations may be fined $1,500 for the first offense, $3,000 for a second, and $5,000 for each additional violation. Administrative costs may also be assessed to account for enforcement and abatement-related costs incurred by the city. Be aware that continued non-compliance in this matter and a failure to pay the administrative citation fees brings consequences. According to Carlsbad Municipal Code late fees may be assessed, civil actions may be pursued, arid special assessments against the property may occur.
