HomeMy WebLinkAboutAV 91-12; Hill Residence; Administrative Variance (AV) (7)h 4 ,. . . i August 27, 1993 Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hill 3317 Cadencia Street Carlsbad, CA 92009 Dear Mr. and Mrs. Hill: Thank you for sending me your recent letter regarding the variance request pending on your residence. I have reviewed the contents of your letter with City staff in order to better understand the problem. While I can sympathize with the flood problem you have been experiencing over the last several years, you must realize that the City has received. complaints regarding the structure you added to your home, and must investigate these complaints to ensure that City regulations are followed for the benefit of all residents. The variance you are requesting from the Planning Commission is the appropriate method for bringing the structure into compliance with the City code. As you are aware, adequate evidence must be presented to substantiate the need for a variance. This documentation should include the reason why you are having the flooding problem, alternative solutions to the problem, and why the addition is the most appropriate solution. The attached letter. sent to you by Assistant City Engineer Dave Hauser outlines specifically the technical areas that need to be addressed by your engineer, Mr. Vernon. If the Planning Commission denies your request for a variance, that decision may be appealed to the City Council. It would be premature for the Council to take action on your request prior to a decision by the Planning Commission. I ‘hope this clarifies the variance process, and that you are able to solve your flooding problems. Sincerely, /- 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive Carlsbad, CA 92008-1 989 (619) 434-2830 FAX (61 9) 720-9461
