Under regulations of the R-1 Zone in the Carlsbad Zoning Ordinance the sideyard setback on an interior lot is 10% of the lot width, not to be less than 5', however, not needing to exceed 10'. The lot width of your house is 90' thus a 9' setback is required by strict interpretation of the ordinance. The R-1 Zone, however, does provide for reduction of the sideyard setback by cumstances include extreme topographical features.
