Inspector Mike Peterson
The City Manager received the attached FAX transmittal on January 8" from Chris
Calkins related to their flower fields retail facility. I wanted to forward this information
to you so you are abreast of his various communications with other City staff.
Calkin's FAX does not specifically request anything, It is more of an update to Ray
re: his plight. Ray's follow up e-mail to Marty, Lloyd, and Michael H. also does not
specifically ask staff to expedite the project; just don't let it languish. As you know,
Mr. Calkins has a propensity to blame his scheduling problems on City staff and
pesky rules and standards.

Janua strikes.
As we hcussed, the prbcessing of the flower field building and related improvements
(restrobms, landscaping: etc.) has been diligevtly pursued and the building structural issues
which were initially seeqi as major problems have been resolved, Some processing through
plannilg and engineenrig was required, and the combination of the staff work load and required material has now createp a potential time problem. Enclosed is the tightest construction
schedqle to be done before the fields are in bloom. We will have difficulty meeting this schedyle if engineering b held up by its work load in completing the review by three weeks,
even ifjthere are no further corrections. The summary of submissions is also enclosed with the
last cqver letters/schedrkles submitted.

Don Neu is out until Mojday and has said he will try to move it along then. If he cannot, we
may win into a time prol$lem, Because of the high visibility of the issue at our meeting in
Octobqr, I wanted to ke4p you advised at this point of our situation,

Subject: Flower Fields Building

Good Morning Gentlemen,
I got a call from Chris Calkins this morning letting me know that he is concerned about the timing for the
construction of the Flower Fields Building. Apparently the building, and whatever, is in some stage of the plan check proaess. He says (not always factual) that if he can't start construction of the building by
the end of January, he won't get it done in time for the flower season. I would appreciate it if you folks could shepard this through. Not necessarily expedite, but let's not let it get lost or set aside by accident. Let me know what you find out.
Thanks
Ray
