SUBJECT: Response to letter dated 1/11/2000.
Please allow me to define what I saw as the results of our site meeting 12/1/99. The SDG&E
Handhole is a vehicle bearing traffic lid and is within the public street. If you place a permanent
asphalt driveway around the handhole I agree that SDG&E will remove the retaining wall and
housekeeping pad at SDG&E's expense.
We also discussed acceptable angles of the handhole's surface. Although my first preference was
to allow the handhole to remain at the current level position our crews would adjust it to an
acceptable driveway grade angle once at SDG&E's expense. If the grade is modified after
SDG&E adjusts the handhole (to the grade provided by your contractor) you will be billed for any
further adjustments greater than %". However 1 will need to review your final grade plans prior
to my commitment to be certain all aspects of the project is acceptable with SDG&E standards.
Mr. Taylor (Sr. Designer) and I have agreed with these very workable solutions pertaining the
handhole and retaining wall that I believe all can agree with.
1.) Developer to maintain two feet level ground west of the existing SDG&E handhole
Or an acceptable grade per the SDG&E standards pages 3483.1,2,3 and 4 . The north and
south ends of the handhole will match the existing grade Or acceptable grade per SDG&E
standards. These standards pages have been given to Mr. Soto.
2.) SDG&E will demolish and haul away all the block retaining wall, footings and
concrete house-keeping pad. Plus one adjustment of the handhole to final grade will be
made by SDG&E at our expense. Should any work associated with your home's
construction result in damage to any permanent SDG&E facility the repair or replacement
will be billable to the property owner.
Any time the City of Carlsbad modifies Carlsbad Blvd in the future SDG&E will adjust to
eliminate a conflict with the handhole per our current Franchise Agreement. If you have any
