SIDE YARD DRAINAGE
MAY 0 5 TO
In accordance with the request of Mr. Bundy with BHA Incorporated, we have provided
supplemental geotechnical consulting services for the subject project. The scope of our services
involved review of planned side yard drainage swales with regard to potential impact on the adjacent
residential structure foundation.
The diagram provided by Mr. Bandy indicated a typical section showing the relationship between
the foundation and the swale. The section showed that the flow line of the swale would be
located 2.3 feet below finish floor elevation of the concrete slab-on-grade and 2.5 feet horizontally
away from the outside edge of the perimeter building footing.
Based on the above information, the condition resulting from the location of the drainage swalewould result hi insufficient depth of foundation. Therefore, it is recommended, where drainage
swales are closer than 5 feet to the edge of the building foundation, that the adjacent footing
geometry be increased to provide no less than 1 foot of depth below the elevation of the swale flow
line. i ,i<
As indicated in our report of the geotechnical investigation of the property, dated January 14,1994,
site drainage is very important. Alteration of the drainage, particularly the swales, after
construction by others, such as the homeowner, may adversely affect the foundations and could
cause moisture problems within the residence.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, or if we may be of further service, please contact
the undersigned at your convenience.
