Subject: Roesch Property - Extension to Remove Abandoned Vehicles and Debris
Dear Ed:
On behalf of Standard Pacific, we are writing to you to request permission to remove the
abandoned vehicles, trash, junk and debris from the Roesch property (APN 215-070-27) after
the gnatcatcher breeding season (October, 2001).
We recently visited the site with biologist, Anita Hayworth of Dudek & Associates, to
discuss feasibility of removing the debris and abandoned vehicles. She expressed concern with
the sensitive nature of this area due to the upcoming gnatcatcher breeding season. Under the
ESA (Endangered Species Act), it is important that we do not destroy nests or disturb the
nesting of the birds located in the canyon. It is also suggested that we do not remove the
abandoned vehicles and junk due to the effect on CSS (Coastal Sage Scrub) underbrush located
in the canyon, the preferred habitat of the gnatcatcher.
We have scheduled the removal of the debris and abandoned vehicles after the
gnatcatcher breeding season is over (November 1, 2001). If you have any questions or need any
additional information, please contact our office at your earliest convenience.
