LAS FLORES CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE UPDATE
On February 14, 2001, I attended a meeting with you and representatives of Las
Flores Church in the City Manager’s Conference Room. The meeting focused
on the status of the church’s conditional use permit. Church representatives
expressed concern about staffs position that the CUP was no longer valid. You
requested I consult with the city attorney’s office on this matter and report back
to you.
Since the meeting, I have prepared a request for legal advice for the city
attorney’s review and determination on whether the church’s CUP is still valid.
The request includes detailed background information, potentially relevant case
law on the expiration of CUPS, and arguments for the validity of the church’s
CUP by Don Worley, an attorney and one of the church representatives at the
meeting.
I have contacted Pastor Dwayne Edwards and Mr. Worley to let them know we
are actively working on determining the status of the CUP. When the city
attorney makes a decision, I will contact you and the church.
