SUBJECT: The Carlsbad Raceway
In reply to your memorandum dated March 12, 1965, concerning police problems in connection with the Raceway and anticipated problems with expanded use of the Raceway to include all types of racing including Sports Car Racing.
Since the Raceway opened last November we have had assigned a Police Officer working an eight hour watch each racing day to protect the property owner adjacent to the San Marcos Road from trespassers.
I am of the opinion that expanding the use of the Raceway to other racing events, including Sports Car Racing, will not create any additional problems.
My observations have' been that the Raceway has been operated in a Safe and efficient manner with good and adequate supervision being provided. The Police Department has never had occasion to be called to the Raceway because of improper conduct or disturbance during its existence.
