Re: Pilgrim Children's Center
Dear Mr. Compas:
I am writing you on behatf of the Pilgrim Children's Center. Apparently, a complaint
has been filed by a neighbor of the Center, Dwight Vallely, regarding the noise from
the children's center. A public Planning Commission hearing will be taking place on
July 2, 1997 at 6:00pm to address this complaint and the Center's Conditional Use
Permit.
I would like to bring to your attention the concern I personally have regarding this
complaint. My child currently attends Pilgrim Children's Center and next year I will
have two children enrolled at the Center. The time and effort spent by myself and
other parents such as myself to find reliable, loving child care can not and should not
be set aside when making your decision regarding this hearing. I am able to go to
work and feel like I have left my child with family. People who will care for him as
I or my own family members would. I spent a great deal of time researching day care
centers and have found Pilgrim Children's Center to be the Best! This is a fact that
has been proven by their Accreditation.
Pilgrim Children's Center has been operating for over 23 years. Their history and
reputation should speak for themselves. I received references from parents who sent
their children to Pilgrim' Children's Center when I was a child! This is quite an
achievement to still be held in such high regard.
The teachers and directors at Pilgrim Children's Center always communicate with the
parents and children regarding anything that may affect them, so we are aware of the
complaint. I would like to point out a few key issues regarding this complaint. First,
Mr. Vallely was well aware that the Center was there prior to the purchase and
subsequent remodel of his home, as his own daughter attended the school. The
church and school officers met with Mr. Vallely and addressed his complaints and
took action to correct it. They encouraged Mr. Vallely to call anytime he felt there
was a problem. Mr. Vallely never contacted them. In January, Mr. Vallely requested
.. another meeting, only to. cancel it and file a complaint with the City instead.
I feel that this is a backhanded attempt just to get the school to have to pay for the
construction of a brick wall that Mr. Vallely wants. Not one other neighbor has ever
complained of the noise from the school. If this were to be approved, I need not
explain what will follow. Pilgrim Children's Center makes every effort to keep tuition
charges as low as possible while still providing excellent care for our children. If the
school is forced to pay for the construction of this wall, the school will be forced to
increase our tuition. Does this sound fair? I don't believe so. As it is, I am a working
and believe me, I am not alone.
mother because we cannot survive on one income. This only makes matters worse, ..
I am requesting that you leave the Conditional Use Permit as it stands today. If you
should have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me at any
time.
Sincerely,
