As citizens of Carlsbad, and parents of a child who has grown and developed in the loving environment offered by the Center, we believe the Center represents one of the finest assets of the City. The employees, children, and parents who are exposed to this unique organization are all touched in a positive way. The Center's 23-year positive impact on the community. through the people who are supported (many of whom are lower income families who receive financial scholarships from the Center), the model of diversity and fairness, and the young lives that are being molded for the next generation of Carlsbad, is felt throughout the City. It has come to our attention that the Center's conditional use pennit is under review, a process apparently encumbered by the unfair, unreasonable, and costly demands of a single neighbor. Given the pre-existing use of the Center by the Church, and that all reasonable attempts by the Center and the Church to settle the differences of this neighbor have been ignored by the hm, we feel that the Center's rights, as well as the rights of the children it serves, should take precedence over any complaint this neighbor may have. We are writing to urge you to renew the use permit, keeping in place the current hours of operation, and refraining from requiring any major facilities renovations. We look forward to seeing you at the Commission hearing on July 2, 1997 to show you our enthusiastic and unswerving support for the Center. Sincerely, Nancy a@.. -rhomas cc: Rev. Jerald M.
