Dear Mr. Compas:
For 23 years, the Pilgrim Children’s Center has provided high quality preschool educa-
tion and child care in the heart of Carlsbad. Accredited by the National Academy of
Early Childhood Programs, the Children’s Center is open to children of all cultures,
races and religions. It is not an evangelical effort and has no religious agenda.
Even more important, the Children’s Center plows any potential profits immediately back
into scholarships for children from low-income working families. Over $35,000 in
annual scholarship funds makes this topquality program accessible to dozens of children
who might not otherwise be able to attend.
A disgruntled neighbor-who moved into his home afier the Children’s Center was
already in operation and whose own child once happily attended the Center-has com-
plained of noise and ask@ for the construction of a costly wall.
Should the Children’s Center be ford to construct this wall, available scholarship funds
will be sharply cut and there is no guarantee that the neighbor’s complaints will be
resolved.
As a parent who has experienced firsthand the difficulty in finding quality child care, I
urge you to deny the request to build this wall, and to allow the Children’s Center to
continue serving the children of Carlsbad as it has for nearly a quarter century.
Sincerely,
