The purpose of these planning efforts is to preserve: the health of the City's biological diversity; the appeal of the City's "opentt character; and the opportunity to access, and link the myriad open space resources in the City. Planning of these open space areas has been carried on by Citizen groups, Committees, staff, and consultants. The development of the Open Space and Conservation Resource Management plan is being made possible through the efforts of the Open Space Advisory Committee. The Open Space Advisory Committee was appointed by City Council in June 1990. Since that time, the Committee has been meeting monthly, in a public forum, to address the Resource Management Plan and other open space issues. To date the work of the committee has been focused on the preliminary background work required for the preparation of the Plan. The Committee is now ready to begin making recommendations on open space priorities for the City as a whole, as well as for each of the City's twenty-five Local Facility Management Zones. Before making any decisions, the Committee would like to hear the thoughts of the residents of Carlsbad. At the Meeting of September 26, 1991, the Committee will, with the assistance of staff and consultants, review the status of the Open Space and Conservation Resource Management Plan.
