Gentlemen:
In accordance with your request, we have provided supplemental geotechnical engineering services
for the subject development. The scope of these services included an evaluation of the need to
provide benching at 30-foot height intervals during grading of fill slopes 30 feet and higher.
It is our understanding that grading associated with the initial development (Building D) will lower
the elevation within Lot 1 1 (previously identified as Lot 8). Along the north side of Lot 1 1, the existing fill slope is approximately 35 feet high. The grade change of 20 feet will therefore create a
slope of about 55 feet high. As recommended in the referenced geotechnical report, the lower
portion of the slope will be constructed as a stability fill.
Based on the above discussion, it is our opinion that benching is not required for fill slopes with
heights greater than 30 feet.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, or if we may be of further service, please contact the
undersigned at your convenience.
Very truly yours,
