PROPOSED LCP AMENDMENT SUMMARY
LCPA 99-07 - Basement Definition Revision
The City’s Zoning Ordinance is the implementing ordinance for the City’s Local Coastal
Program. Accordingly, this Local Coastal Program Amendment is necessary to ensure
consistency between its proposed amended Zoning Ordinance and its Local Coastal Program.
This specific Zone Code Amendment is as follows:
To revise the basement definition so that the minimum perimeter area by which a basement area
must qualify as a basement per the zoning ordinance’s definition is increased from 50% to 75%.
This would require three sides of a typical building’s basement area to qualify as a basement
instead of just two sides.
If you have any questions, please call Eric Munoz in the Planning Department at (760) 438-l 161,
extension 4441. Written comments should be sent to the Planning Department at 2075 Las
Palmas Drive, Carlsbad, California 92009.
