GENERAL
All signage shall comply with the approved sign ordinance for the Coastal Zone Chapter 21.41.090 and a-
Office Zone, Chapter 21.41 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code.
PROJECT IDENTIFICATION MONUMENT SIGN
A. Number allowed per lot: 1
B. Maximum sign face area: 60 SF Sign may be double-faced
C. Maximum height above grade: 8 FT (including mounding)
D. Sign construction and materials: Fabricated aluminum sign cabinet with metal accents to match the
building. Maximum three (3) tenant panels and one (1) directional message panel featuring major
service destination is allowed.
E. Maximum letter/logo height: 9 inches. Letters and logos sha ll be individual push-thru acrylic with dual
color day/night vinyl faces to be black during the day and glow w hite at night. Typestyle: Futura Regular,
unless tenant's specific corporate typestyle and color scheme is approved by property owner and/or
landlord.
F. Lighting: Letters and logo may be internally illuminated.
TENANT WALL SIGNS
Per 21.41.090 Coastal Zone
A. Building-Top
1. Maximum number of wall signs allowed for the entire building: 1 per business or 4 signs maximum if
only 1 tenant occupies the entire building. A ground floor business with a direct ground floor
entrance is allowed either one building-top or ground floor tenant sign, but not both. See section B
for ground floor tenant sign criteria.
2. Sign locations: See wall elevations for approved location options. Each wall sign to be separated by
75 FT minimum. Locations 4.1 or 4.6 may feature a tenant wall sign, but not both locations at the
same time. Locations 4.3 or 4.4 may feature a tenant wall sign, but not both locations at the same
time.
3. Maximum sign area: 50 SF or 60 SF depending on sign location, see wall sign elevations.
4. Sign height allowed: No higher than the allowed building height for usable floor area. Signs shall not
extend above the parapet.
5. Maximum letter/logo height: 36 inches.
6. Material: Letters and/or logo shall be dimensional and fabricated from aluminum or other
nonferrous materials that may be internally illuminated. Letter faces and returns to be painted black
with white LED halo illumination, unless alternate color scheme is approved by landlord. Letters to
be base mounted to an aluminum raceway to allow building mounted penetrations from mounting
bar and not behind letters.
7. Typestyle: Futura Regular, unless tenant has specific corporate typestyle and color scheme approved
by property owner and/or landlord.
8. Lighting: Letters and logos may be halo illuminated at the North, East and West elevations. Internal
illumination at the South elevation is prohibited.
B. Ground Floor Tenants with a Separate Ground Floor Entrance
1. Maximum number of wall signs allowed for the entire building: 1 per ground floor business having a
separate ground floor entrance. A ground floor tenant with a separate ground floor entrance is
allowed one building-top or one ground floor tenant sign, but not both.
2. Maximum sign area: 20 SF (two lines of copy may be used, not to exceed 20 SF)
3. Sign height/location allowed: Centered on fascia directly above business entrance.
4. Maximum letter/logo height: 18 inches.
5. Material: Dimensional letters/logo shall be fabricated from acrylic, aluminum and/or other
nonferrous material. Letters to be base mounted to an aluminum raceway to allow building
mounted penetrations from mounting bar and not behind letters.
6. Typestyle: Futura Regular, unless tenant has specific corporate typestyle and color scheme approved
by property owner and/or landlord.
7. Lighting: Illumination possibility and allowance to be reviewed and approved by property owner
and/or landlord. Tenants such as an Urgent Care may be allowed internal illumination. However,
illumination on the South elevation is prohibited.
DIRECTIONAL SIGNS
A. Number allowed per lot: 3 per driveway entrance
B. Maximum sign face area: 6 SF per sign. Sign may be double-faced
C. Maximum height above grade: 6FT
D. Sign construction and materials: Fabricated aluminum sign cabinet with metal accents to match the
building and monument sign. Service destination message panel to be painted with contrasting push-
thru or vinyl lettering and arrow.
E. Maximum letter/logo height: 8 inches. Lettering shall be individual metal or vinyl.
Typestyle: Futura Regular.
F. Lighting: May be internally illuminated
