Hello Rebecca,
Here are the revised sign application plans.
We have reviewed your comments. As I explained to you over the telephone, unlike with storefronts, the functions of the
awning and the lighting are not just esthetic or promotional, but mostly practical. It is impossible to @have b& the awning
and the lighting due to the weather protection requirements of the equipment, CA state laws, and public's convenience and
safety.
Therefore we made the following changes:
1. Box Sign
The initially proposed box sign on the side of the building is replaced with the more expensive separate
channel letters as prescribed in your guidelines.
No lettering shall be made on the awning therefore kclassifymg it as sign according you your guidelines
and freeing it form the "no back lighting" requirement.
In addition, raising the awning several inches so as to put the lighting at the awning's bottom edge instead
of inside. Combined with the fact that the lighting is a 180 deg. primarily downward, there will be no real
back lighting of the awning.
In fiuther addition, changing the material of the awning to a denser and thicker polyester canvas (new
samples attached) which is non-translucent.
Since the awning will no longer serve as a sign, another, slightly smaller channel letters signs will be placed
on top of the ATM under the awning (facing Grand Ave.). Since the awning is no longer counted as
signage, this creates no problem in regard to total allowable space. In fact, the total countable square
footage for our permit is actually reduced.

Also, although our frontage should not have been counted toward the Alley's original sign permits, I have recalculated the
frontages and existing signage to include theirs as per your request and am glad to report we are still well below the allowable
square footage, especially in light of the above changes.
Although the new plan effectively quadruples out costs, we could come up with no alternative and believe it now complies
with all the guidelines. Please call me if there are any questions.
