APPLICATIONS
The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
for potential issues by the Traffic Engineering Department, which will not allow signs to be
approved over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection.

Dear Mark:
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) has
reviewed the sign plans proposed for Capstone Advisors, located at J545 Faraday Avenue.
The proposed plans for a smgle wall monument sign and two small tenant identification signs
are consistent with the CRC Design Guidelines and therefore the submitted plans are considered
APPROVED. Sign construction may begin once a Si^ Pennit is obtamed from the City of
Carlsbad and a copy of that permit is forwarded to the CRC.
The ARC understands that you would like to use external lighting on the monument. Such
lighting is not allowed under the current Design Guidelines, however that aspect of the DGs is
currently being considered for revision. The ARC understands that you would like to install the
in-ground infrastructure and utilities at the time of sign construction. Please provide plans for
the external lighting.
The ARC approves the installation ofthe in-ground components with two conditions: the sign
may not be illuminated until the DGs are changed and the in-ground infrastructure cannot
interfere with mowing of the turf. Note that in the event the DGs are not modified the sign may
not be externally lit.
